Nick Swisher searches for his dad and great '80s mustaches on 'Old Baseball Cards'

Yahoo Sports

No one in the world has ever doubted Nick Swisher’s enthusiasm. He may be the most excited man we’ve seen in baseball in the last 20 years. But if you want to see Swisher really excited, show him some old packs of baseball cards like we did on this week’s all-new installment of “Old Baseball Cards,” our wax-pack driven nostalgia show here on Yahoo Sports.

Swisher retired following the 2015 season after 12 years in the big leagues with New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics, Cleveland Indians and others. These days, he’s an MLB analyst for Fox Sports, which is home this week to the World Series.

For “Old Baseball Cards,” Swisher presented a great cross-generational opportunity — we could open cards from his era of baseball and his dad’s. Steve Swisher played from 1974 to 1982, so we opened a pack of 1982 Fleer and a pack of 2004 Topps, Nick’s rookie year.

Along the way, we talked about ’80s mustaches, the guy with the best beard in the big leagues, one of the craziest ovations he heard at Yankee Stadium, Jim Rice killing in “R.B.I. Baseball” and we pull off a five-card trade at the end.
