Fergie Jenkins finds all the guys who couldn't hit his slider on 'Old Baseball Cards'
When you’re a pitcher, you remember. You remember who couldn’t hit what pitch and who you struck out in big moments. And when you’re a Hall of Fame pitcher like Fergie Jenkins, there’s a lot to remember.
Jenkins — the Chicago Cubs great, 1971 Cy Young winner and 29th all-time in career wins — is this week’s guest on “Old Baseball Cards,” Yahoo Sports’ baseball-card driven nostalgia show. As we open up packs of 1981 Fleer and 1987 Topps, Jenkins finds an abundance of players he knows, quite a few who couldn’t hit his slider and one who accounted for a classic moment in his career, his 3,000th strikeout.
We come across quite a few names that you’ll know if you were watching baseball in the ’80s, like Dave Parker, Joe Morgan and George Foster. We even find Lenny Dykstra and a much-younger Bruce Bochy. It’s a fun walk down memory lane with one of the game’s greats.
