Let it never be said that new Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora doesn’t know how to assess players. As he proved on this week’s episode of “Old Baseball Cards,” he’s quite shrewd when it comes to making a deal.
We opened two pack of old baseball cards — he had 1994 Topps Stadium Club; I had 1988 Fleer — and we found some of the same players. He wouldn’t just trade Tom Glavine for Tom Glavine though, because as Cora says, 1994 Tom Glavine is way more valuable than 1988 Tom Glavine.
He also has plenty of insight on where players from the ’80s and ’90s have ended up and even found a teammate of his brother, Joey Cora’s from the 1994 Chicago White Sox.
If you’re new to this series, we open Old Baseball Cards with baseball players, coaches and famous fans. Most of the cards aren’t worth much, but the reactions and stories we get from the people opening the cards are often priceless. We’ve got plenty of great episodes below you can watch.
