Pedro Martinez proved during his Hall of Fame career as a pitcher that he was fantastic on the mound. Since he moved onto broadcasting after retirement, he’s proved he’s fantastic at talking about baseball too. And in this week’s episode of 25-Year-Old Baseball Cards, Pedro proves he’s also fantastic at opening baseball cards.
This week, Martinez – now an analyst at MLB Network — delivers one of the best episodes of our series. And that’s not something I say lightly. We’ve had some good ones.
Pedro pulls a Tony Gwynn card and tells a fantastic story about his time facing one of baseball’s best hitters. Then Pedro pulls his brother Ramon’s card, which is a great moment. I didn’t think there was any way I’d get Pedro to trade either Gwynn or his brother, but then my pack produced an old teammate that Pedro adores. It led to another fantastic story about his early days with the Montreal Expos.
If you’re new to this series, we open baseball cards from 25 years ago with baseball players and famous fans. It all started with a bunch of cards that had been sitting around in my garage. Since they’re not worth much, we instead have baseball people open them and share their memories. Check out some of our previous episodes below:
CELEBS: Alyssa Milano | Josh Duhamel | Joel McHale
STARS FROM BACK IN THE DAY: Frank Thomas | Sandy Alomar Jr. | Delino DeShields | Cliff Floyd | Dan Plesac | Aaron Boone | Bobby Bonilla | Andre Dawson | Ivan Rodriguez
