Recap: Indiana basketball pulls out a 61-59 win over Penn State in Big Ten tournament

The Indiana men's basketball team enters the Big Ten tournament as the No. 6 seed after IU finished 10-10 in league play (18-13 overall).

According to BetMGM, the Hoosiers are a 1.5-point favorite tonight against No. 11 Penn State (16-16, 9-11 Big Ten). However, the Nittany Lions beat Indiana twice during the regular season. IU is on a four-game win streak.

Final: Anthony Leal hits the game-winner for Indiana

IU pulled out the win. Malik Reneau missed a shot with 7 seconds left but Anthony Leal grabbed the rebound and made a quick layup with 5 seconds to go to seal the win.

Penn State's Ace Baldwin Jr. made a jumper to tie things at 59-59. PSU got the ball back but Baldwin missed. IU will get the ball after the timeout.

Penn State tied it at 55-55 with a pair of free throws from Puff Johnson at the 3:56 mark. Kel'el Ware went to the line at 3:30 and went 1 for 2 from the line.

At 2:38, Puff Johnson made both of his free throw attempts. PSU took a 57-56 lead. On the ensuing possession, Ware went to the free-throw line and made 1 of 2 attempts. Game now tied at 57-57. That was broken when Ware threw down a dunk.

Two players, Malik Reneau and Mackenzie Mgbako, have 4 fouls each for IU. The Hoosiers have shot 41% while PSU is at 28%.

Nick Kern Jr. fouled out at 6:01 for Penn State. He had 8 points and 2 rebounds. PSU has 2 other players with 4 fouls each.

Indiana and Penn State have been trading leads in the last few minutes. Kel'el Ware made a jumper at 9:35 to give IU a 47-44 lead. But Puff Johnson hit a 3-pointer to tie things up at 47-47. Anthony Leal made a free throw to break the tie.

Ware has 12 points and 11 rebounds.

After being down 6 points, Indiana has gone on a 7-0 run. Gabe Cupps hit a 3 to give the Hoosiers the lead back at 12:40.

16:12 left 2H: Penn State goes on a run to take the lead

Zach Hicks made a 3-pointer at 18:36 to cut IU's lead to 34-32. A minute later, Puff Johnson made a layup and was fouled in the process. Johnson's free throw gave PSU a 35-34 advantage. However, Malik Reneau's layup gave Indiana the lead again.

Nick Kern Jr. hit a 3-pointer at 17:23 to give Penn State a 38-36 lead. Zach Hicks nailed a 3 to follow that and was fouled by Gabe Cupps. Hicks converted the free throw attempt to give PSU a 42-36 lead. The Nittany Lions went on a 13-2 run.

Halftime: IU basketball leads but PSU is right there

Indiana is shooting 45% from the floor (14 for 31) and has turned the ball over 5 times. Penn State is at 21% from the floor. However, the Nittany Lions are 10 for 11 from the free-throw line, which is helping them hang around.

Mackenzie Mgbako leads the Hoosiers with 10 points.

The Nittany Lions are shooting 20% from the floor but are 10 for 11 from the free-throw line.

4:00 left 1H: PSU trails by 5 despite poor shooting performance

Penn State's shooting is really hurting them right now. The Nittany Lions were ice cold until Zach Hicks hit a 3-pointer at 5:39. Hicks was fouled on the shot by Anthony Leal and made the free throw to convert the 4-point play. That was the Nittany Lions' first field goal since the 11:41 mark. Despite its shooting struggles, PSU trails IU, 24-19.

Kel'el Ware responded with a dunk off an assist from Xavier Johnson. Demetrius Lilley followed that up with a dunk of his own for Penn State.

The Nittany Lions are 6 for 28 from the field (21%) while the Hoosiers are at 44% (12 for 27). Penn State is 0 for 12 on layups.

Penn State hasn't made many layups. The Nittany Lions were 1 for 9 at one point when it came to those.

At 8:29, Anthony Leal nailed a 3-pointer.

11:07 left 1H: Penn State comes back after slow start

Penn State was shooting 1 for 11 when D'Marco Dunn hit a 3-pointer for the Nittany Lions at the 14:01 mark. Nick Kern Jr. followed that up with a 3 of his own to cut IU's lead to 10-8 at 12:35. Penn State tied it at 10-10 with a basket by Dunn at 11:41.

Gabe Cupps broke the tie with a 3-pointer at 11:23.

15:50 left 1H: Indiana leads Penn State early in Big Ten tournament

Kel'el Ware started it off strong with a dunk just seconds into the game. Malik Reneau followed that up with a layup at 19:11. PSU scored its first points at 17:05 with a Puff Johnson dunk.

Penn State is 1 for 8 from the floor (14%).

Trey Galloway expected to miss IU basketball vs. Penn State

Indiana will mostly likely be without one of its key players in tonight's Big Ten tournament game.

Senior guard Trey Galloway wasn't part of team warm-ups before tonight's game in Minneapolis. He sustained a knee injury in the Hoosiers' regular-season finale against Michigan State.

Galloway is averaging 10.6 points and a team-high 4.6 assists per game and has been indispensable, playing a team-high 33.3 minutes per game.
