Pineiro agrees to two-year deal with Angels
The Los Angeles Angels, who lost ace John Lackey(notes) to the Boston Red Sox earlier in the offseason, reached an agreement on Wednesday with 15-game winner Joel Pineiro(notes) to a two-year, $16 million contract.

The right-hander is scheduled to undergo a physical Thursday.
Pineiro, 31, was a pleasant surprise last season for the St. Louis Cardinals. Under pitching coach Dave Duncan, Pineiro made 32 starts and threw a career-high 214 innings. He allowed four runs in four innings in Game 3 of the National League Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, who eliminated the Cardinals in that game.
In the months since they were eliminated by the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series, the Angels signed designated hitter Hideki Matsui(notes) and reliever Fernando Rodney(notes), and now they added Pineiro to the rotation, where he'll join Jered Weaver(notes), Scott Kazmir(notes), Ervin Santana(notes) and Joe Saunders(notes).
The Angels had lost three organizational faces – Chone Figgins(notes), Vladimir Guerrero(notes) and Lackey.
