Player Notes
John Lackey surrendered three runs over five innings in a rain-shortened loss to the Royals on Saturday.

Advice: The tarp was rolled out onto the field in the middle of the sixth inning, at which point Lackey had thrown 68 pitches. He likely would have been able to last another inning or two if the game hadn't been called. As is, he struck out two and walked two while allowing six hits over his five innings. Alex Gordon burned him for a two-run homer in the second inning. The other run came in the form of an RBI single by Salvador Perez in the fourth. Lackey's pitched very well for the Cardinals this season and boasts a 3.18 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 38/16 K/BB ratio in 56 2/3 innings, numbers which he'll take into a (hopefully dry) series with the Dodgers in his next start.

John Lackey held the Mets to one run in seven innings in a no-decision on Monday as the Cardinals lost in 14 innings.

Advice: Lackey allowed the lone run in the fourth inning when Lucas Duda hit an RBI single to center field. He pitched well enough to win, but Matt Harvey was just a little bit better. Lackey gave up only three hits without issuing a walk while striking out six. The veteran now has a 2.96 ERA with a 1.14 WHIP and a 36/14 K/BB ratio in 51 2/3 innings. He'll face the Royals in Kansas City next.
