When will Riley Reiff’s future with the Vikings be determined?

There was some good news for Vikings left tackle Riley Reiff after the season was over. Despite missing out on a snap count bonus that would have given him $1 million, the team decided to give him the money anyway.

That $1 million benefits Reiff, but it does hit the cap in 2021, according to a report. Per the Star Tribune’s Ben Goessling, Reiff’s bonus will be tacked on to the 2021 season.

With the way Reiff’s contract is structured, the Vikings would not be wise to hang onto him after March 19, only to cut him later on. That would mean Minnesota would be paying $5 million for nothing. Minnesota incurs a dead money hit of $1 million if the team elects to release him before his bonus of $5 million he’s due to earn.

So what does that mean? In all likelihood, Reiff’s future in Minnesota will be determined before then. Whether that means he restructures, stays on his current deal or departs this offseason, remains to be seen.
