MSU hockey splits with Notre Dame, sets up pivotal game 3 on Sunday

The Big Ten hockey tournament is underway, and the stakes are very high for Michigan State. The Spartans are in a must-win position, having to win a best 2-out-of-3 series in the Big Ten quarterfinals on the road against Notre Dame to have any chance at making the NCAA Tournament.

In game one, despite the Spartans putting all the pressure in the world on the Fighting Irish, MSU fell 1-0. Down 1-0 in the series, MSU was in a win or go home situation for the rest of the weekend.

In game two, the Spartans went down 1-0 and doubt was starting to set in if the Spartans could score on the stifling Notre Dame defense. That changed quickly, MSU exploded for 4-straight goals en route to a 4-2 victory.

Now, the stage is set for game 3 between the Spartans and Fighting Irish, with MSU’s NCAA Tournament hopes on the line.

Game 3 will be played at 6 p.m. EST on Sunday, and we will be shown on FS2.
