Analysis

In 2015, the Vikings offensive attack was much more on the conservative side of the spectrum. The game plan featured a run heavy scheme, and one that took the ball out of the quarterback’s hands. Bridgewater was given little opportunity to take control of the game.

Though it was thought to do the opposite, the return of Adrian Peterson resulted in stunting Bridgewater’s development.

The problem isn’t with Peterson himself, but rather the whole offensive staff. Norv Turner and company struggled to find a sustainable balance between the run and pass, which was an issue for the Vikings all season long.

Despite all of the negatives, Bridgewater was still able to show resiliency and displayed his skills as a passer. He can complete throws to all areas of the field, showing high level accuracy and good ball placement. Bridgewater also has the ability to evade relentless pressure and improvise on the run.

The young quarterback did struggle throwing deep early on but was able to overcome that in the second half of the season. The new addition of Laquon Treadwell is only going to improve the situation.

Treadwell will be especially beneficial in the red zone and down the field with his ability to win contested situations. The combination of Treadwell with Stefon Diggs should give Bridgewater a dangerous tandem to rely on.

Wrap up

Most importantly, Bridgewater shows up when his number is called. Time after time he came through in the clutch. His calm, cool, collective nature allows him to play loose in high pressure situations.

Only two years into his development, it’s too early to guarantee anything. But, Vikings fans should be happy with their leader under center.

The Miami Native brings quality on and off the field. With a revamped offensive line, Bridgewater should have more time to scan the field and find an open man. Peterson can’t do it on his own anymore; it is time that the torch must be passed on.
