2017 Raiders Draft Prospects: Getting to Know LB Harris and CB Azuwie

In the background of any draft, unheralded talented waits for their moment. Plus, these potential draft picks in two areas where the Oakland Raiders really must add quality. For this reason, Lindenwood linebacker and Colorado corner Chidobe Azuwie need consideration.

Harris: Initially, no one considers Harris a player. As a result, only one scholarship offer fell his way. Whether he’s exploding into tackles or stuffing run plays, the skills exist. He holds the current NCAA all division record for the most tackles with 633 career tackles. Harris holds the current NCAA all division record for the most tackles (633). In addition, ,he won the 2016 Cliff Harris Award for the best small school defender. Furthermore, Harris showcased his versatility as a running back and punter, recording 7 touchdowns and a 38.8 yard average.

Awuzie: If the first round did not contain so many corners, Azuwie could sneak into the bottom portion. Boasting good height 6’0 and weight 202lbs his ability to stay hip-to-hip is excellent. Also, he reminds many of family friend and former Raider Nnamdi Asomugha.

As a freshman, he started 7 games, recording 59 tackles 5 for a loss. Not to mention, breaking up 4 passes, showing why he’s held in such high regard by scouts. Moreover, he led the team in 2014 in the first 9 games with 64 tackles, 2 INT and 8 passes broken up. Unfortunately, he suffered a lacerated kidney in practice and sat out the rest of the season.

Awuzie plays mostly as a nickel spot, but is very adept at man to man coverage. Armed with electric speed, he excels in vertical coverage. Where he struggles is shedding blocks in run support. Yet, Azuwie shows coachability. Equally important is desire.

While these two aren’t household names, the Raiders need talent over star power.
