Catcher Gregg Zaun signs with the Brewers

Veteran catcher Gregg Zaun(notes) agreed to terms Friday on a one-year contract with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Zaun, who will be 39 in April and batted .260 last season for the Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays (.286 in the second half), replaces Jason Kendall(notes). The contract, which has a club option for 2011, guarantees him $2.15 million, slightly more than had the Rays picked up his 2010 option.

A durable and savvy catcher, Zaun will play for his ninth team in 16 seasons. He'll work a staff that is developing Yovani Gallardo(notes) and Manny Parra(notes) and hoping for bounce-back seasons for Jeff Suppan(notes) and Dave Bush(notes).
