The Leafs had their future squarely in their hands with the likes of Tyler Seguin, Dougie Hamilton, Jared Knight and Jimmy Hayes...that should have been the rebuild core.

Funny how a team as crappy as the Leafs, 7 years removed from a playoffs appearance and still not having enough assets accumulated to pull the trigger on a Nash trade...where have these assets gone? Traded away for quick fixes which essentially set them even farther back on their road to recovery. These "big fishes" come available every so often, but this franchise is always on the outside looking in. Solace comes in the invariable and omnipresent "Leafs were in on the trade discussions". Okay and thanks, that should appease the Leafs Nation...at least we tried. Pronger, Thornton, Kovalchuk, Chara etc all available recently...none came the way of the Leafs...but I bet they were in on all the discussions.
