WNC high school baseball power rankings Week 7: Why North Henderson joined the top 10

Here are the Western North Carolina high school baseball power rankings for Week 7.

Roberson roared back to the top spot after going undefeated on its trip to the coast during spring break. See how the rest of the top 10 shook out below.

1. Roberson (12-2)

Roberson ventured out to the North Carolina coast during spring break. The Rams are coming back to Asheville after picking up impressive wins over Reagan and J.H. Rose.

Last week: No. 2. This week: vs. Erwin (Tuesday), at Erwin (Friday), vs. Combine Academy (Saturday)

2. West Henderson (12-1)

West Henderson run-ruled both of its opponents, Hendersonville and Enka, last week. Jude Lyda went 3-for-4 with a double, triple, a home run and seven RBIs in the win vs. the Bearcats.

Last week: No. 1. This week: at Reynolds (Tuesday), vs. Brevard (Wednesday), vs. Reynolds (Friday)

3. Reynolds (8-4)

Reynolds also challenged itself over the spring break. The Rockets went 2-1 against quality competition, defeating teams from South Carolina and New York. Their loss came to North Stanly, which is 15-1.

Last week: No. 3. This week: vs. No. 2 West Henderson (Tuesday), vs. Franklin (Thursday), at No. 2 West Henderson (Friday)

4. Tuscola (10-3)

Tuscola will head to Tennessee this week to face Dobyns-Bennett, Science Hill and two other teams from the Volunteer State. Coach Zack Shepherd will learn a lot about his team.

Last week: No. 5. This week: at Dobyns-Bennett (Thursday), at Daniel Boone (Friday), at Unicoi County (Saturday), at Science Hill (Sunday)

5. Hayesville (9-2)

Sophomore Jackson Sellers has helped the Yellow Jackets average more than 14 runs per game during Smoky Mountain conference play. The first baseman is hitting .586 with two doubles and 15 RBIs.

Last week: No. 6. This week: Open

6. Christ School (10-4)

Christ School outscored opponents 35-1 during its three-game win streak after dropping two straight. Pitchers Wells Alderman and Charlie Collins helped the Greenies concede only one run in the victories.

Last week: No. 7. This week: vs. Providence Day (Monday), vs. Asheville Christian Academy (Tuesday), at Asheville Christian Academy (Friday)

7. Erwin (7-3)

The Warriors return from spring break with a two-game series against top-ranked Roberson and a game at Smoky Mountain. It'll be impressive to see if Erwin can pull out a win against the Rams.

Last week: No. 4. This week: at No. 1 Roberson (Tuesday), at Smoky Mountain (Thursday), vs. No. 1 Roberson (Friday)

8. North Henderson (9-5)

North Henderson joins the top 10 after defeating Franklin (twice), Madison and Enka during a four-game win streak. Leadoff hitter Mason Gasperson is hitting .366 with five doubles, a home run and 18 RBIs.

Last week: Unranked. This week: at East Henderson (Monday), vs. East Henderson (Friday)

9. Robbinsville (7-3)

Robbinsville dominated Andrews in its two-game series but dropped a game to Cooper Basin (Tenn.), giving the Cougars their second win of the year.

Last week: No. 9. This week: Open

10. Polk County (8-5)

The Wolverines have a difficult two-game series against R-S Central this week. North Carolina State commit Gunner Alm has paced Polk County offensively, hitting .500 with seven home runs, two doubles, a triple and 18 RBIs.

Last week: No. 8. This week: vs. R-S Central (Tuesday), at Rosman (Wednesday), at R-S Central (Friday)
