Playing for the title: Central Mass. tournaments highlight Tuesday's Fantastic Five (or so)

The Central Mass. tournaments are in full swing. Their heroes and prime-time performers made their way into most of the supersized MetroWest and Milford-area Fantastic Five. The games featured plenty of drama and incredible statistic feats.

With the regular season winding down, here are the standout high school sports performances from Tuesday, May 21, including major milestones and league title winners:

FINN BELL & JOE KELLY, Wayland boys volleyball

They each collected their 500th kill in a 3-0 win over Acton-Boxborough. Kelly put down 20, and Bell had 13 for the Warriors (11-7). Wayland libero Liam Frenzel pulled up 14 digs.

MADDY BENOIT, Tri-County softball

She stole three bases and scored three runs on a two-hit day, as the Cougars beat Blue Hills 11-8 to clinch the Mayflower League championship. Mackenzie Duffy (solo homer) and Breann MacMillan (triple) added two hits each for Tri-County (14-3, 7-1 Mayflower). Cougars starter Neila Schweitzer picked up the win in the circle.

LIZZIE BRYTOWSKI, Hopedale softball

She punched out 17 in a three-hit shutout, leading the Blue Raiders to a 9-0 win over Maynard in the Central Mass. Class D semifinals. Hopedale (16-3) will face Tahanto at 4 p.m. Thursday for the title at Worcester State. Brytowski also dropped in three hits. The Blue Raiders scored eight runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull away.

SAM COLLETTE, Hudson softball

She smashed two homers, one a grand slam, in a 9-5 in over Bay Path in the Central Mass. Class B semifinals. Collette drove in six runs for the Hawks (13-5). They'll play for the title at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Worcester State. Hudson's Alyssa Davis, Livi Sousa, Colbie Lacina and Audrey Lenox dropped in two hits each.

IOANNIS KAMBOSOS, AMSA baseball

He hit a go-ahead two-run single in the seventh inning to send the Eagles to the Central Mass. Class B final with a 5-3 win over Oakmont. AMSA (9-6) will face Blackstone Valley Tech at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Tivnan Field for the title. AMSA's Trevor Petty contributed two hits.

BRAYDEN LEWIS, Hopedale baseball

He was 2-for-4 and scored the winning run in a 4-3, eight-inning walk off victory over Maynard in the Central Mass. Class D semifinals. The Blue Raiders are in the final for the fourth year in a row and will play Tahanto at 4 p.m. Friday. Hopedale senior Lucas Levasseur delivered the walk-off single.

LUC MASSE, AMSA boys lacrosse

He collected a hat trick in a 9-7 victory over Blackstone Valley Tech in the Central Mass. Class B semifinals. AMSA's Hayden Kearney and Tvin Hirsch found the net twice each. The Eagles will face the winner of Tuesday's game between Nipmuc and Tyngsborough in the final Thursday or Friday at Foley Stadium at a time to be determined. Jamie Nelson led the Beavers with two goals and two assists.

LAYNE THOMASON, Hudson girls lacrosse

She notched her 100th career point in a 15-13 win over Blackstone Valley Tech. Thomason scored seven goals with two assists, while Katie Perusse put away four goals with five assists. Hudson's Say O'Sullivan found the net twice, while Zoey Morfis contributed a goal and an assist.

Baseball

BC HIGH 4, Lincoln-Sudbury 2: Cooper Tarantino doubled and drove in a run, while Matthew Stagno had a double for the Warriors. L-S' Liam Curley and Andrew Kushinsky each singled and scored a run. Martin struck out three and allowed just a hit over two relief innings.

BLUE HILLS 3, Tri-County 2: Cam Cummings threw four innings of scoreless relief with six strikeouts for the Cougars (9-8, 3-5 Mayflower). Tri-County's Nate McCurdi had a hit and an RBI.

WESTBOROUGH 6, Wayland 2: Brady Chapman doubled twice with three RBIs for the Rangers (7-12). Westborough starter Andy Cerniglia didn't allow a walk and allowed just one earned run and six hits.

NIPMUC 3, Canton 1: Josh Giancola struck out six and allowed just one hit and one run over six innings and hit an RBI double for the Warriors (9-8). Nipmuc's Noah Parrotta (double) and Joey Fraser (single) each added an RBI.

ALGONQUIN 10, Nashoba 0 (5): Preston Cote allowed just one hit in a five-inning shutout for the Titans (7-10). Algonquin's Zachary Meehl hit a two-run single, while Brennan Rice had two hits and two RBIs and Jack Doolan went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs

MILLIS 6, East Bridgewater 3: Keelan Riggs and Hayden Leach had a hit and two RBIs each for Millis. Millis starter Andrew Morse threw all eight innings and allowed just three walks and one earned run with three strikeouts against eight hits. Millis' Nick Hohman dropped in two hits, while Wil Ferguson and Talon Shepardson contributed a hit and an RBI each.

Softball

MEDWAY 12, Sharon 0 (5): Allyson Fagan drove in five runs on two hits including a three-run inside the park homer for the Mustangs (11-5). Medway's Katie Anderson and Priya Bedard had two hits and two RBIs each.

MILLBURY 18, Blackstone Valley Tech 10: Lynsey Kay (two runs) and Brooke Gniadek (three RBIs) each had three hits for the Beavers (8-11).

NATICK 14, Milford 10: Katie McMahon had three hits and four RBIs for the Redhawks (7-10). Natick's Caroline Riley drove in four runs with two hits.

ASSABET 9, Douglas 1: Mia Gonzalez had a double, two RBIs and a run, while Jordan Child added a single and two RBIs for Assabet (5-11).

Boys lacrosse

ALGONQUIN 8, Grafton 2: Ben Yosca netted a hat trick that sent the Titans (10-7) to the Central Mass. Class A championship.  Algonquin will play Wachusett for the title at Foley Stadium at 6 on Friday.

WELELSLEY 13, Framingham 5: Austin Lynch put away four goals with two assists for the Raidres (12-5). Wellesley's Brody Sharpe added three goals and three assists.

DOVER-SHERBORN 17, Wayland 8: Grant Sullivan poured in six goals for the Raiders (10-8). D-S' Max Niit contributed four goals and three assists.

Girls lacrosse

BROMFIELD, Hopedale 5: Emily Frohn had a hat trick for the Blue Raiders (2-14).

NASHOBA 11, Algonquin 7: Bella Roman put away six goals for the Titans (10-7).

Boys tennis

HOPEDALE 3, Auburn 2: C.J Kivlehan helped ensure a Blue Raiders victory with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 win against Ty Chauvin at No. 3 singles. The Hopedale (7-7) No. 2 doubles team of Matthew Miler and Brady Droeske rallied from a 4-6 loss in the first set to beat Wyatt Diamond and Owen Kennedy 6-0, 6-3. The Blue Raiders No. 1 team Dom Costanza and Carter Lachiatto defeated Zackary Bonneau and Evan Merdacante 6-0, 6-1.

WESTBOROUGH 4, Concord-Carlisle 1: The Rangers carved out their place among the state's best. Kaden Chen set the tone at No. 1 singles with a 7-6 (7-0), 6-4 win against Lucas Bikkesbakker. Westborough (13-2) swept the singles points. Srinjoy Ghosh beat Charlie Derkazaria 6-4, 6-2, and Jordan Halwek prevailed 7-5, 6-3 against Armaan Samani. The Ragners No. 1 doubles team Brendan Estaphan and Eehab Kan took down Robert Soares and Dan Lynch 6-2, 7-6 (7-5).

Girls tennis

CONCORD-CARLISLE 4, Westborough 1: The Rangers top doubles team Sahasra Kommineni and Elena Chen earned a point for Westborough (10-5) with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Sydney Noordeij and Ally Berlain.

SHREWSBURY 3, Algonquin 2: The Titans fell in the Central Mass. Class A final. Siyona Bhagwat earned a 6-2, 6-4 win over Anna Wang for Algonquin (1-6). Algonquin's No. 1 doubles team Claire Wallace and Becca White beat Riddhi Gulati and Amna Siddigvi 6-0, 7-5.

MILLIS 4, Ashland 1; MILLIS 4, Ashland 1: Amelia Staples swept both matches of the doubleheader and has now won eight times in her last nine matches for Millis. Millis No. 3 singles player Adriana Villacis and No. 1 doubles team Izzy Doherty and Addy Loer went 2-0 on the day.

MARLBOROUGH 4, Northbridge 1: Megan Fanelli paved the way for the Panthers (2-10) at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Callie Jee. Marlborough's Juliana Aristizabal-Crisales defeated Kate Leonard 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2, and Alexis Ott prevailed 6-4, 6-3 against Jordyn Priore at No. 3. The Panthers No. 2 doubles team Ali Ryan and Altagracia Toussant bested Emily Kelly and Emily Billmyer 6-1, 6-1.
