Mountain West tournament 2024: Bracket, standings and schedule as March Madness nears

Men's college basketball conference tournament play is well underway across the country ahead of the NCAA Division I tournament.

The Mountain West, which features 2023 national championship runner-up San Diego State, begins its conference tournament with three first-round games on Wednesday.

Only one team will earn an automatic bid to the 68-team March Madness tournament with a conference tournament championship. However, USA TODAY's latest bracketology projections give the conference five more at-large bids in the NCAA tournament this year.

Six total teams in the tournament would match the record for bids from a "non-power conference" that the Atlantic 10 set in 2014. That total trails only the Big 12 and SEC in current projections, and it matches the Big Ten.

Here's what to know about this year's Mountain West tournament.
