As five-star Darryn Peterson reopens recruitment, Ohio State again offers a scholarship

As Darryn Peterson reopens his recruitment, Ohio State has made it clear that it wants to be a part of the picture.

A five-star prospect from Northeast Ohio now playing in West Virginia, Peterson has taken multiple visits to the Buckeyes and included them in a list of his top eight schools released during the winter. But while that put Ohio State in the same category as Arkansas, Baylor, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan and North Carolina, Peterson’s father, Darryl, told 247Sports.com on Monday that the family was reshuffling the deck and reopening Darryn Peterson’s recruitment.

Tuesday afternoon, Darryl Peterson’s personal Instagram account confirmed that new Ohio State coach Jake Diebler has re-offered his son a scholarship.

“(Shoutout) and Special thanks to Coach Diebler and Staff for taking the time out to come to West Virginia and reoffer Darryn Bucket Jones Peterson in person a full Division 1 scholarship to The Ohio State University,” Peterson’s father wrote.

Sunday, Darryl Peterson posted to Instagram that new Kentucky coach Mark Pope had reoffered his son, who previously held a Wildcats offer from coach John Calipari. Monday, Darryl Peterson posted that USC and first-year coach Eric Musselman had done the same.

Also Tuesday, Darryn Peterson posted the logos of Kentucky, Ohio State, USC and then Kansas to his Instagram story.

ESPN ranks the 6-5, 195-pound guard as the No. 3 high school prospect regardless of class. After two years at Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, Darryn Peterson transferred to Huntington (West Virginia) Prep for the 2023-24 season. Under coach Chris Holtmann, Ohio State offered him a scholarship before he began his high school career.

The Buckeyes were set to host Darryn Peterson on his first official visit, but that was scrapped when Holtmann was fired in mid-February. He took an official visit to Kentucky in early March when John Calipari was still coach.
