Dimock-Emery and Dell Rapids PBR move on to quarterfinals with close wins on Wednesday

MITCHELL —The Dimock-Emery Raptors and Dell Rapids PBR closed out the second round of the state Class B amateur baseball tournament with victories on Wednesday night.

Dimock-Emery slipped past the Kimball-White Lake Nationals 4-2 and Dell Rapids downed Madison 2-1.

Jonah Schmidt's run-scoring single with two outs in the top of the eighth snapped a 2-2 tie for Dimock-Emery, which added another run in the ninth on an error.

Jason Schmidt, who homered and Peyton Nash each had two hits for the Raptors. Josh Engquist and Phil Johnson combined for a six-hitter on the mound.

Blake Leiferman collected three hits and Jaxon Christensen two for Kimball-White Lake. Zak Wallner went the distance in the loss.

In the second game, Brett Mogen tossed a two-hitter with 17 strikeouts to lead Dell Rapids to victory. PBR scored both of its runs in the bottom of the second with a two-out rally that including a run-scoring single by Riley Calhoon and a run-scoring double by Chris Burke. Calhoon and Burke each had two hits.

Greg Biagi hit a solo homer in the top of the fourth for Madison. Aspen Dahl took the loss despite allowing six hits with seven strikeouts in seven innings.

Dimock-Emery and Dell Rapids PBR meet in Friday's final quarterfinal game at 7:30 p.m.

The tourney continues through Sunday.
