Detroit Lions vs. Los Angeles Rams playoff game info: Date, time, TV channel

Here we go! The Detroit Lions' home stadium, Ford Field, will host its first-ever Lions playoff game in what should be an absolutely wild scene next week. And now we know the opponent, date, time, TV channel info and more.

Oh is this good.

The Lions (12-5) as the No. 3 seed will face the No. 6 seed Los Angeles Rams (10-7), quarterbacked by Matthew Stafford, next Sunday night in the NFC wild-card round. This sets up a host of juicy storylines and might be the most anticipated playoff matchup of the six-game slate.

The Lions are desperate to end their NFL-leading playoff winless drought at 32 seasons, having lost nine playoff games in a row, including their most recent appearance seven years ago in Seattle, 26-6, on Jan. 7, 2017.

Now they'll face Stafford, the owner of numerous franchise records after being the team's No. 1 overall pick in 2009 and playing 12 seasons in Detroit. He was traded to Los Angeles in January 2021, days after requesting a trade, then won a Super Bowl in his first season with the Rams.

The Lions last won in the playoffs in the 1991 season — their lone postseason victory since 1957 or 66 years — at a raucous Pontiac Silverdome, 38-6, over the Dallas Cowboys.

The Lions' most recent home playoff game came against the Green Bay Packers in the 1993 season, a heartbreaking 28-24 loss at the Silverdome which is among the most painful of the Lions' 13 playoff losses.

The Lions are 6-2 at home this season; the Rams are 5-4 on the road.
