Detroit Lions suffer devastating 37-31 OT loss to Seattle Seahawks
New season, same result.
The Detroit Lions for the second consecutive year suffered a heart-wrenching loss to the Seattle Seahawks, 37-31 in overtime at a frenzied sellout crowd at Ford Field.
Tyler Lockett scored on a 6-yard touchdown reception by touching the pylon in the right corner of the end zone to end the game without the Lions offense getting the ball.
The Lions rallied from 10 points down in the fourth quarter, with Riley Patterson converting a 38-yard field goal on the final play of regulation. That came after the Lions bogged down with conservative time management instead of going for a go-ahead touchdown.
The physical game took a toll on both sides, with numerous players experiencing injuries. For the Lions, that included running back David Montgomery (thigh), receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown (cramps) and guard Halapoulivaati Vaitai (knee).
Jared Goff's interception-less streak ended on a pick-six in the fourth quarter — thrown behind an open Jahmyr Gibbs — but he responded to lead the offense to a touchdown on the following drive to cut the deficit to 31-28. He threw a flea flicker for a 36-yard touchdown to Kalif Raymond in the first half for a 14-7 lead which stood at halftime because Seahawks kicker Jason Myers missed from 45 yards and 56 yards.
The Lions host the Atlanta Falcons next Sunday (1 p.m.), then play at Green Bay the following Thursday. The Falcons (2-0) rallied for a 25-24 win Sunday over the Packers (1-1).
