Bronson pitchers toss perfect games in sweep

BRONSON - Bronson walked 31 times in prep softball action on Tuesday evening. It's also worth noting that a pair of Bronson hurlers pitched perfect games in three-inning contests.

It helped the Lady Vikings sweep Maple Valley in a pair of games, winning 17-0 in both.

"The pitchers threw great today and the team played with a lot of energy," Bronson coach Becky Gray said.

The pitching proved to be the difference. Both Ashlynn Harris and Mya Webb pitched perfect games in three-inning victories. Harris won the first game with eight strikeouts. Webb struck out six in the second game.

Bronson got two hits from Harris in the first game, a single and a triple. Brealyn Lasky clubbed a single and a double as well while Ciara Blankenship and Roni Bir each collected a hit.

Harris, Blankenship, Bir and Kailynn Scare each had two hits in the second game. They combined to drive in five. Lasky and Braelynn Gimenez each singled in the game as well.

Three Rivers, Eddies split

Three Rivers and Edwardsburg split a pair of softball games on Tuesday.

The Wildcats won the first game, 5-2. Ava Forman belted a home run in the game and drove in two.

Emily Ventrone and Lanie Glass both had a hit and drove in three total runs while Peyton Ware clubbed two hits. Kendall Penny had a hit as well.

Jennaya Decker picked up the win, striking out seven.

Edwardsburg won the second game, 7-4. The Eddies scored five times in the seventh to secure the lead. Three Rivers' runs came in the sixth and seventh.

Forman belted a homer in this one as well. She drove in two.

Ashton Ware collected two hits and an RBI. Ventrone had two hits while Glass and Peyton Ware each had a hit. Penny had two hits.

Colon beats Athens

Kelsey Burgess hammered a pair of runs and drove in three runs as Colon beat Athens 15-14 on Tuesday.

Liv Johnson collected two hits and drove in four runs while Reese Williams, Amaya Johnson and Raegan Thaxton each had two hits and one RBI. Madison Kulpinski registered one hit that scored one.

Alyssa Hess struck out seven to get the win.

Marcellus wins twice

The Marcellus softball team beat Lawrence twice on Monday.

The Lady Cats won 15-2 in the first game. Layni Heuring had four hits and two RBIs while Carlyn Deer had three hits and three RBIs. Abby Tone also had three hits with one driven in, Clare Flory drove in three runs with two hits. Addie Curtis and Kenzi Schuur both had one hit and an RBI while Aubree Kruger had two hits, M Harrison added one.

Heuring struck out 10 to get the win.

Marcellus won 9-3 in the nightcap. Flory belted a homer and hit a single and a double with four RBIs. Deer had two hits and one RBI while Heuring, Kruger and Tone each had one hit and a run driven in. Curtis registered three hits.

Heuring struck out nine to get the win.

Plainwell sweeps Sturgis

Sturgis dropped a pair of games at Plainwell on Tuesday evening.

The first game saw Riley Northrop blast a homer, she drove in all three runs for the Trojans in the contest. Plainwell won 11-3.

In the second, Plainwell scored six times in the first, 12 times in the second and three times in the third. Sturgis' runs came in the first and second with three each.

Sophia Crites registered two hits and two RBIs. Hannah Stielau had a base hit as well for the Trojans.

Baseball

Sturgis dropped one game and was leading in the second when it was halted by weather on Tuesday at Plainwell.

Plainwell won the opener, 5-3. Neither team scored until Plainwell posted five in the sixth innings. The Trojans plated three in the top of the seventh, but could not tie the game.

The Trojans in orange and black recorded four hits. George Bucklin had a run-scoring hit while Carter Oswald, Gavin Lewis and Camden Duffy each had a hit. Both Taner Patrick and Gibson Cary were credited with an RBI.

Duffy pitched the opening 5 1/3 innings.

In the second, Sturgis was leading 3-2 when thunder stopped the contest in the fourth.

Colon dropped a 10-6 decision to Athens on Tuesday.

Ayden Delp had three hits and drove in two runs for the Magi while Kaleb Bissett connected for a pair of hits. Maverick Downs drove in one on a pair of hits and Wyatt Downs knocked in one with a hit. Colin Trattles and Carter Person both had a hit while Wyatt Downs knocked in one with a base hit.

Bissett, Person, Downs and Delp combined to strike out 16 Athens hitters.

Three Rivers dropped a pair of games against Edwardsburg on Tuesday.

The Cats fell 3-1 in the first game. Mason Awe had two hits while Carson Beuter, Luis Warmack and Jace Gray each had a hit.

Kaleb Williams struck out eight on the mound.

Seven players earned hits in the second game for Three Rivers, which dropped a 12-1 decision.

Three Rivers is now 9-8-1 on the year.

Centreville beat White Pigeon twice on Monday.

The Bulldogs won 15-0 and 12-2.

Centreville got three hits from Vinny Jines in the first game, he drove in four. Matt Swanwick hit a home run, a single and had two RBIs while Bo Riley had two hits and two RBIs. Cash Dentler and Tommy Smeltzer both had an RBI hit, Ben Truckenmiller had two hits while Jack Bartelt had two RBIs.

Smeltzer struck out two for the win.

In the second game, Centreville got two hits from Kobe Carpenter, Jines, Riley and Peyton Schuring-Harris. Dentler, Garrison Bunning and Bartelt each had a hit while Swanwick collected three hits and two RBIs.

Truckenmiller and Carpenter combined to strike out seven.

White Pigeon got hits from Devin Smith, Clayton Grandstaff and Bristol Ultz.

Marcellus beat Lawrence twice on Monday, 16-4 and 11-0.

Abram Coffey clubbed two homers in the game, driving in five. Cole Thornburgh registered three hits with one RBI while Nathan Mihills had a hit and drove in two. Parker Adams had a hit as well.

Mihills earned the win with nine strikeouts.

In the second game, Mihills had three hits and drove in five runs. Brock Buck registered two hits and two RBIs while Cale Hackenberg and Thornburgh each had a hit and an RBI.

Coffey got the win with 10 strikeouts.
