Agent Boras: Deals for top clients 'only a phone call away'

In recent weeks, MLB superagent Scott Boras has nailed down deals for first baseman Eric Hosmer and outfielder J.D. Martinez. Now, he could be close to wrapping things up for a few of his other high-profile clients.

Jake Arrieta, Mike Moustakas, Greg Holland and Carlos Gonzalez remain free agents. When asked about their status by MLB.com on Wednesday, Boras replied, "We're closer to deals than we were two weeks ago. Some of those things are only a phone call away."

Arrieta, Moustakas, Holland and Gonzalez have each been named an All-Star within the last two seasons, yet have been victims of the league's slow offseason. Arrieta, the 2015 National League Cy Young winner, and Holland, who led the NL in saves last season, are particularly of interest, as teams are always looking to stock up on pitching.

Arrieta has been recently connected to the Philadelphia Phillies, while the Los Angeles Angels have been linked to Holland. And many think Moustakas, who slugged 38 home runs last season, could wait until after Opening Day to sign.

Boras wouldn't show his hand regarding the 29-year-old.

"Moose is an All-Star third baseman with near 40 home runs in the prime of his career," he said. "We expect clubs with winning goals to sign him."

Moustakas' former teammate, Hosmer, got an eight-year, $144 million contract from the San Diego Padres in mid-February. Martinez inked a five-year, $110 million deal with the Boston Red Sox not long after.
