Player Notes
Greg Holland returned to action in Friday's loss to the Red Sox, striking out three in a scoreless inning of work.

Advice: Holland did walk one in the outing, but his velocity was normal and his offspeed pitches looked sharp. He appears to be over his bout of triceps tightness, which is a good sign for the Royals who need their closer to be available down the stretch as they continue to make a push for a long-awaited postseason berth.

Greg Holland (triceps) said Thursday that he's available to pitch.

Advice: It's not clear whether the Royals have officially cleared him, though, so his status remains somewhat up in the air. Holland hasn't pitched in over a week due to a bout of triceps tightness. If Kansas City chooses to avoid Holland again Thursday, Wade Davis will handle a potential save chance.

Greg Holland (triceps) remained unavailable to pitch Tuesday after feeling a "slight twinge" while throwing his slider during a bullpen session before the game.

Advice: Royals manager Ned Yost said after the game that Holland is "real close" to being ready to pitch, but he's now missed a week of action. Kansas City will continue to use Wade Davis in save situations until Holland is cleared to pitch.

Greg Holland (triceps) could remain unavailable Tuesday.

Advice: Royals manager Ned Yost indicated Monday that Holland should be available Tuesday, but he reversed course Tuesday, saying the closer felt "a little bit of tightness" in his triceps during his bullpen session Monday. Wade Davis will continue to handle the save chances for Kansas City until Holland is ready.

Royals manager Ned Yost expects Greg Holland (triceps) to be available to pitch Tuesday.

Advice: Holland wasn't available Monday after playing catch and throwing off a mound, but it appears that he's good to go moving forward. The All-Star closer boasts a 1.60 ERA and 0.98 WHIP with 80 strikeouts over 56 1/3 innings this season.

Greg Holland (triceps) played catch and threw off a mound on Monday afternoon.

Advice: But manager Ned Yost still wouldn't say whether the closer is available to pitch. Wade Davis was used in the ninth inning twice this weekend in New York and converted both opportunities, fanning four of the six batters he faced while lowering his season ERA to 0.71. It might be a good idea to pick Davis up.

Greg Holland (triceps) said he's available to pitch Sunday.

Advice: He could still be held out as a precaution, but it sounds like the closer is over his bout of triceps tightness. If the Royals do play it safe, Wade Davis would be used in a potential save chance Sunday. Holland boasts a 1.60 ERA and 0.98 WHIP with 80 strikeouts over 56 1/3 innings this season.
