Player Notes
Eric Hosmer (hand) could be sidelined for up to six weeks.

Advice: The initial timetable floated was four weeks, but apparently Hosmer could be on the shelf even longer than that. The first baseman is dealing with a stress fracture in his right hand, an ailment that he originally suffered over a week ago but played with after initial X-rays didn't find anything. The Royals will go with a combination of Billy Butler and Raul Ibanez at first base while Hosmer is sidelined.

Eric Hosmer could miss the next month of action with a stress fracture in his right hand.

Advice: Hosmer was hit in the hand by a pitch over a week ago and never fully recovered, necessitating more tests. Unfortunately, an X-ray revealed the bad news. Hosmer has batted a disappointing .267/.312/.377 this season, but he's heated up this month. The Royals will now likely be forced to play Billy Butler at first base.

Eric Hosmer left Thursday's game versus the Twins after aggravating his right hand injury.

Advice: He's set to undergo X-rays. Hosmer was hit in the hand by a pitch over a week ago and still isn't right, so it seems likely that he has more than just a bruise. The results of the X-ray should be available later Thursday.

For the second straight night, Eric Hosmer (hand) entered Friday's game as a defensive replacement.

Advice: Hosmer is dealing with a bruised right hand, and still hasn't been able to swing the bat. Expect it to be another day or two before he is able to return to the Royals starting lineup.

Eric Hosmer entered Thursday's game as a defensive replacement.

Advice: Hosmer's bruised right hand leaves him unable to swing a bat at the moment, as he was pinch-hit for by Raul Ibanez. He could be limited to defensive work for a few more days.

Eric Hosmer (hand) will not swing a bat Thursday.

Advice: Hosmer got hit in the right hand by a pitch on Sunday before returning to the lineup Wednesday, but he was forced to make an early exit due to "decreased grip strength." He might have to miss a few days to get back to 100 percent.

Eric Hosmer was pulled from Wednesday's game against the Cubs with "decreased grip strength in his hand."

Advice: That was the announcement from the Kansas City medical staff. Hosmer got hit by a pitch on Sunday and sat out Monday and Tuesday with what was called a right hand contusion. He obviously needs a little more rest.

Eric Hosmer is back in the Royals' lineup Wednesday.

Advice: Manager Ned Yost had indicated a desire to sit Hosmer until at least Thursday, but the first baseman has evidently talked his way back into the lineup a day early. Hosmer missed two games due to a bruised right hand, an ailment that was a result of a hit by pitch Sunday.

Eric Hosmer (hand) isn't expected to return to the Royals' lineup until at least Thursday.

Advice: Hosmer missed a second straight game Tuesday with a bruised right hand, and he's expected to sit out Wednesday, as well. The first baseman suffered the injury when he was hit by a pitch Sunday and the Royals don't want the ailment to linger. "That's why I'm hoping this doesn't linger," manager Ned Yost said. "Give him a couple days now. It might save him. Instead of battling through it, and it affecting him for three weeks, instead of a week. Get it to where it's manageable."
