Patriots latest Super Bowl win proves how good Giants teams that beat them were

The New York Giants are the only team to hand Brady and Belichick’s New England Patriots a loss in the Super Bowl.

It didn’t appear that way at first. The Atlanta Falcons went up 25 points in Super Bowl LI and it looked like they were going to do the impossible. Then, the Patriots scored 31 unanswered points for the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history.

The Giants showed the world how to defeat the Patriots on Super Bowl Sunday. They used a power running game and a punishing defense to win Super Bowls XLII and XLVI. The running game kept New England’s offense off the field. The defense sacked, pressured, and hit Brady to the point that he was uncharacteristically rattled and off target.

Those Super Bowl victories were not totally because David Tyree and Mario Manningham made a catch. To suggest otherwise does the rest of the team a colossal disservice.

The Giants won Super Bowls XLII and XLVI on the strength of their defense.

Brady had his two-lowest Super Bowl scoring outputs in those two losses. The Giants faced what was the most prolific offense in NFL history in Super Bowl XLII. New England averaged 37 points a game in their 16-0 regular season but only managed 14 points in the Super Bowl. In the 2011 regular season, New England put up 32 points a game. In Super Bowl XLVI, they only scored 17.

The Giants allowed 31 points in Super Bowls XLII and XLVI. Atlanta allowed 36 and lost a game they never trailed in. Eli Manning and the offenses didn’t put up awe inspiring numbers in those Super Bowl victories and didn’t need to. They held the ball enough to let their defense to dominate and made no mistakes when it counted most.

Brady and Belichick are being hailed as the GOAT quarterback and coach since winning Super Bowl LI. If this is true, what the Giants did in Super Bowls XLII and XLVI is even more impressive. The phrase “defense wins championships” is not a cliché when applied to those teams.
