Our 'way too early' list of 2024 Washington County Football players to watch
It's been a little over four months since the conclusion of the 2023 Washington County high school football season. Four months from now, the county's eight teams will begin preseason practices.
Is it too early to start looking ahead? We don't think so.
Dozens of talented athletes are set to return, put on the pads and helmets and don their school's colors in the fall. Based on last season's statistics and all-county honors, here are our top 25 players ready to make their mark again, plus many others worth keeping an eye on this year.
1. Ceonta Wilmore, WR/LB/P, Williamsport
Wilmore, who will be a senior, earned all-county first-team honors on both sides of the ball in 2023. He made 38 catches for 866 yards and seven touchdowns as a receiver, and as an outside linebacker, he made 55 tackles, including 10 for loss and a sack, with two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, an interception and a defensive TD. He averaged 34.3 yards per punt with a long of 60 yards.
2. Jayden Yates, QB/DB, Saint James
Yates, who will be a junior, passed for 1,000 yards and 11 touchdowns and ran for 911 yards and 12 more TDs to earn all-county first-team honors in 2023.
3. Trevor Sowers, LB, Boonsboro
Sowers, who will be a senior, earned all-county first-team honors as a linebacker in 2023, finishing with 99.5 tackles, including 10.5 for losses and three sacks, and forced five fumbles.
4. Liam Hall, LB, Saint James
Hall, who will be a junior, had 98 tackles, including five for losses and one sack, with three interceptions and a fumble recovery last year, earning all-county first-team honors.
5. R.J. Franklin, OL, South Hagerstown
Franklin, who will be a senior, was an all-county first-team honoree in 2023, helping anchor a Rebels offense that amassed a county-leading 3,654 yards from scrimmage and averaged 29.3 points per game.
6. Seth Possinger, LB, Clear Spring
Possinger, who will be a senior, had 85 tackles, including five for losses and a sack, with a fumble recovery for the Blazers last year, earning all-county first-team honors.
7. Alex Fletcher, OL, Saint James
Fletcher, who will be a senior, earned all-county first-team honors in 2023, helping the Saints average 309.1 yards per game in total offense, including 193.3 per game on the ground.
8. I'Rayvion Hart, DB, South Hagerstown
Hart, who will be a senior, earned all-county first-team honors last year, finishing with 52 tackles, three interceptions and a fumble recovery.
9. Sam Shank, LB, Clear Spring
Shank, who will be a senior, earned all-county first-team honors after compiling 61 tackles, including nine for losses and four sacks, with a forced fumble in 2023.
10. Drew Rupp, DB, Saint James
Rupp, who will be a junior, made 40 tackles, including three for losses, and forced a fumble last year to earn all-county first-team honors.
11. Max Vivier, OL, Saint James
Vivier, who will be a junior, teamed with Fletcher up front for the Saints and also earned all-county first-team honors.
12. Josiah Davis, RB, South Hagerstown
"JoJo" Davis, who will be a junior, earned all-county second team honors last year, rushing for 579 yards and five TDs for the Rebels.
13. Aiden McCarty, RB, Hancock
McCarty, who will be a senior, earned all-county second-team honors in 2023 when he rushed for 565 yards and seven TDs. Also made 38 tackles on defense.
14. Khalil Peggues, WR/DB, North Hagerstown
Peggues, who will be a senior, made 19 catches for 364 yards and three TDs for the Hubs last year, earning all-county second-team honors. Also had two INTs on defense.
15. Alex Matthews, RB/DB, Clear Spring
Matthews, who will be a junior, rushed for 317 yards and three TDs on offense, earning all-county second-team honors, and added three interceptions and two forced fumbles on defense.
16. Ayden Weakfall, WR/DB, Smithsburg
Weakfall, who will be a senior, made 19 catches for 211 yards and four TDs on offense and had three interceptions on defense, earning all-county second-team honors.
17. Cahauri Alford, WR, South Hagerstown
Alford, who will be a senior, made 18 catches for 333 yards and six TDs in 2023, earning all-county second-team honors.
18. James Jackson, LB, North Hagerstown
Jackson, who will be a senior, earned all-county second-team honors in 2023, finishing with 62 tackles, including five for losses, two forced fumbles and an interception.
19. Kyle Duvall, RB/LB, Williamsport
Duvall, who will be a senior, earned all-county second-team honors last year after racking up 55 tackles and an interception.
20. Masiah Martin, WR/DB, Williamsport
Martin, who will be a sophomore, made 17 catches for 271 yards and two TDs for the Wildcats last year to make the all-county second team. Also intercepted a pass on defense.
21. Hunter Bigelow, LB, Saint James
Bigelow, who will be a senior, had 39 tackles and an interception to earn all-county second-team honors in 2023.
22. Parker DeBaugh, RB/WR, Boonsboro
DeBaugh, who will be a junior, rushed for 228 yards and four TDs, and made 12 catches for 188 yards and two more scores for the Warriors in 2023.
23. Colin Telemeco, QB, Boonsboro
Telemeco, who will be a senior, threw for 434 yards and six TDs while rushing for 130 yards for the Warriors in 2023.
24. Hayden Hodge, QB, Clear Spring
Hodge, who will be a senior, threw for 496 yards and two TDs, rushed for 68 yards and also served as the Blazers' kicker and punter in 2023.
25. Sam Stonebraker, RB, Saint James
Stonebraker, who will be a senior, rushed for 341 yards and a TD and added six catches in 2023 for the Saints.
