Warrenton softball scores at home

All it took was a little homecoming for Warrenton softball to snap a six-game slide and get back on track.

With weather moving games around, the Warrenton Warriors were in action for the first time since April 4. Wednesday saw Warrenton take on winless Corbett High School, and the Warriors took care of business.

Warrenton’s KiKi Olson pitches against Corbett on Wednesday.

Behind KiKi Olson’s pitching and hitting, the Warriors won 12-2 to snap their losing streak.

Olson went six innings, striking out 10 and giving up just hits. She also went 2-3 with four RBIs.

Sara Kornder and Emma Smith both reached base in every plate appearance to spur on the offensive attack. Kornder was 2-2 with two walks and four stolen bases, while Smith was 3-3 with two RBIs and one walk. The Warriors had 11 hits on Wednesday in a much needed win.

Warrenton baseball is back to work

Warrenton High School baseball returned to the diamond for the first time since April 4 to take on Neah-Kah-Nie High School.

Once again, the Warrenton Warriors’ pitching was on full display. Cam’Ron Daniels shut down the Neah-Kah-Nie Pirates’ lineup with a complete game shutout. Daniels gave up just three hits in the game, and Warrenton provided him the run support to make quick work of Neah-Kah-Nie. Warrenton won 6-0.

The Warriors will face Corbett High School on Saturday.

Knappa softball back on track

After losing two games to St. Paul on April 5, Knappa softball got back on track with a 14-1 victory against Perrydale High School.

The Knappa Loggers scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game. Taylor Pass was stellar on the mound for Knappa, allowing just one hit in her six innings of work. Pass also struck out eleven batters and hit a home run at the plate. Ayla Burnett led the way for the Loggers, going 3-4 with two RBIs.

Knappa baseball on a roll

After a slow start to the season, Knappa High School baseball is rolling. A 13-0 victory against Portland Christian High School was the Knappa Loggers’ fourth in a row and kept their perfect league start going.

The Loggers had 11 hits in their win and Knappa pitchers struck out nine batters. Kutter Ball had a big day at the plate, going 3-4 with three RBIs. Braxton Hill joined the fun with three hits of his own.

On the mound, Lukas Masters was the winning pitcher. Masters threw for over two innings and struck out four batters. He was relieved by Olivers Stevens and Ball. Stevens retired all four batters he faced, and struck out three. Ball closed the game out in the top of the fifth for Knappa.

Seaside baseball walks it off

The Seaside boys walked it off Tuesday evening at Broadway Field.

Tallen Kraushaar scored on a passed ball in the bottom the eighth to give Seaside their first league win of the season. The Seagulls fell behind 3-0 to Tillamook after three innings, but battled their way back for the 4-3 win.

Trailing 3-0 going into the bottom of the fifth, the Seaside Seagulls struck with three runs before winning the game in the bottom of the eighth. Jake White led the way with two RBIs.

On the mound, it was the freshman combination that ran the day. Brayden Cooley started the game, pitched over six innings and struck out nine batters. Cooley was charged with three unearned runs, as the Seagulls had four errors on Tuesday. Hayden Halsen relieved his fellow teammate and threw over an inning to get the win.

Astoria baseball blanked by St. Helens

Astoria and St. Helens High School had a game under the lights Tuesday night at Ron Tonkin Field in Hillsboro. The Astoria Fishermen were looking to build off their clutch victory from April 5, but it wasn’t to be. St. Helens’ strong pitching ran the day.

St. Helens’ pitcher Skyler Bjornstrom was almost perfect on Tuesday. Bjornstrom only walked one batter, while striking out 11. The combination of Dallas Norris and Merrick Benesch did a good job holding down the St. Helens Lions lineup, but they were outdone by an all-time pitching performance in their 4-0 loss.

Seaside softball loses a tough one

Seaside softball was looking to get on the board in Cowapa League play against Tillamook on Tuesday afternoon. However, the Seaside Seagulls were clipped at the line.

The Tillamook Cheesemakers outlasted the Seagulls, 6-5, to claim their first league victory and keep Seaside winless in league play.

Seaside was undone by errors in the field. The Seagulls committed nine errors, which lead to three runs for the Cheesemakers. These ended up being the difference, as Tillamook scored just three earned runs against Lydia Klumper and Carly Corder.

Klumper led the Seagulls with two hits and three RBIs.
