See who readers picked as the Savannah Morning News Athlete of the Week

Track and field athletes competed in sectional meets over the weekend to punch their tickets to the upcoming GHSA State track and field meets next week and there were some impressive performances by athletes from the Greater Savannah area.

Readers weighed in and select the Savannah Morning News Spring High School Athlete of the Week in an open poll with no restrictions on the voting and Raleigh Wesley of Bethesda Academy was the winner with 65.38& of the vote. Payton Livingston of Savannah Christian was second with 33% of the tally.

Here were last week's candidates.

Jamari McIvory, Savannah Christian

The senior had the top state qualifying marks in the 200 meters (21.51) and 400 meters (47.46) in a Class 3A state sectional meet at Peach County High,

Jadyn Singleton, Savannah Christian

The senior had the top state qualifying mark in the triple jump (38-8.5) and also qualified for the Class 3A state meet in the long jump (18-7.50) and the 100 meters (12.46).

Memphis Rich, Richmond Hill

The senior had the top state qualifying time in the 1,600 meters (4:21.86) and the second best time in the 3,200 meters (9:38.21) at a Class 7A sectional meet in Valdosta.

Julia Anastasio, Richmond Hill

The freshman qualified for the Class 7A state meet with the second best time in the 1,600 meters (5:14.49) and the fifth best time in the 800 meters (2:23.06) at a sectional meet in Valdosta.

Payton Livingston, Savannah Christian

The junior set a school record with a time of 16.76 in the 100 meter hurdles at the state sectional meet at Peach County High.

Andrew Wynn, Savannah Country Day

The junior had the top state qualifying time in the 300 hurdles (39.68) at the Class 3A sectional meet at Peach County High and also qualified for the state meet in the 110 hurdles (14.92) and high jump (6-0).

Bubba Frazier, Benedictine

The sophomore qualified for the Class 4A state meet in the 100 meters with a time of 10.82 at a sectional meet in Milledgeville.

Ben Hockman, New Hampstead

The sophomore qualified for the Class 4A state meet in the 200 meters (21.59) and the 100 meters (10.86) at the sectional meet in Milledgeville.

Dani Lynn, South Effingham

The freshman qualified for the Class 6A state meet in the discus and shot put in a sectional meet at Morrow High School.

Raleigh Wesley, Bethesda Academy

The sophomore won SCISA Class 2A state titles in the 100 meters (11.0), 200 meters (22.54) and anchored the Blazer 4x100 meter relay team that finished second.

Will Hampton, Calvary Day

The Vanderbilt-bound senior earned the save with 2⅓ innings of scoreless relief in the first game and went 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs in the second game as the Cavs swept Dawson County in a Class 3A quarterfinal series.
