Best case scenario

Osborn continues his upward ascension and becomes a 1,000-yard receiver.

After being drafted only as a returner, Osborn has turned himself into a really good wide receiver. He had 350 of his 650 yards in the final four games of 2022 when he essentially took over the WR2 spot from Adam Thielen. Osborn has developed well as a route runner and thrives in open space with his strength and capable speed.

Worst case scenario

Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports
Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports

The final four games of 2022 were a mirage and he doesn’t evolve into a WR2.

This outcome is a likely one, as Osborn doesn’t have any plus traits for the position. He is a very capable player, but he isn’t great. Considering he will be getting more focus in terms of coverage early on, this could hinder his performance and the Vikings’ offense.

What to expect in 2023

Osborn isn’t a great player, but he does have talent. Going up to WR2 and playing more on the outside is earned, but it will be a challenge for him. The likely outcome is an improvement from 2022 but not enough to warrant a big contract extension after the season. As the third (potentially fourth) pass-catching option, Osborn will have opportunities to take advantage of defenses.
