Top Somerset County baseball, softball, tennis, track and field performers for April 8-13

Saturday

Baseball

Mount Union 2, Somerset 1: Lane Lambert recorded a hit and drove in a run for the Golden Eagles in a narrow setback.

Track and field

Giant Eagle Invitational: Somerset's Kamryn Ross won the 100- and 200-meter dash, earning Most Outstanding Runner at the Giant Eagle Invitational in Bedford.

Ross finished second in the long jump and joined Rihanna Hillegass, Josie Smith and Abby Urban on the victorious 4x100 relay team which set a new girls' meet record in a time of 49.75. Emily Fisher won the 800 and finished second in the 1600. Urban took second in the 200 and 400. Smith finished second in the pole vault.

The Somerset girls finished second overall in the 18-team competition.

Somerset's Maverick Swank won the boys' triple jump. Evan DiBuono finished second in the 300 hurdles.

Bill Wilt Memorial Invitational: Conemaugh Township's Izzy Slezak (100 and 200 dash), Baylee Sleek (100 hurdles, high jump), and Ellie Speigle (400 dash) captured victories to lead the team to 103 points and the girls' title at the Bill Wilt Memorial Invitational at United.

Conemaugh Township's Cameron Dunn was victorious in the boys' long jump.

Softball

Hancock 9, Turkeyfoot Valley 6: Kya King went 3-for-4 with three RBIs for the Rams in a non-conference setback.

Makiah Schartiger and Maleigha Younkin each collected three hits, and Rhylan Rugg collected two hits.

Softball

Meyersdale 15, Southern Fulton 0 (3): Laurel Daniels delivered three hits, including a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored for the Red Raiders in a rout.

Izabella Donaldson and Jessica Daughton each tallied two RBIs, including a home run apiece. Kendell Donaldson added three hits, two RBIs and a run. Amber Long and Zoe Hetz each recorded two hits.

Izabella Donaldson allowed one hit, a walk and struck out eight.

Track and field

Meyersdale sweeps Tussey Mountain: The Red Raider boys cruised to a 119-35 victory while the girls earned a 99-46 triumph.

Levi Hersch (400 dash, 300 hurdles, triple jump, pole vault), Tristin Ohler (100 and 200 dash), and Bryson Hetz (shot put, javelin) captured multiple individual wins for Meyersdale.

Aurora Comfort (1600, 3200), Taylor Short (long jump, triple jump), and Rayne Stevanus (shot put, discus) claimed multiple individual victories for Meyersdale.

Baseball

Fannett-Metal 9, Berlin Brothersvalley 0: Craig Jarvis doubled for the Mountaineers in a setback to the Tigers.

Softball

Berlin Brothersvalley 12, Fannett-Metal 1 (5): Elena Ritchey tallied two hits, including a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored for the Mountaineers in a rout of the Tigers.

Elsie Barna and Sadie Snyder each provided two hits and two RBIs. Coral Prosser and Cayley Poorbaugh added two hits and an RBI apiece. Sydney Walker allowed four hits and struck out three.

Meyersdale 6, Shade 1: Amber Long produced three hits, including two doubles, a home run and four RBIs to vault the Red Raiders over the Panthers.

Zoe Hetz added two hits and an RBI for Meyersdale. Izabella Donaldson allowed an unearned run on one hit, three walks and struck out 14.

Tara Corradini had the lone hit for Shade.

Tennis

Somerset 5, Bishop McCort 0: Cornelius Grau, Kai Petrosky and Tanner Wassilchalk earned singles wins to lift the Golden Eagles over the Crushers.

Josiah Antram and Declan Egal as well as the team of Ben Bowers and Isaac St. Clair picked up doubles victories.

Windber swept in DH: In Match 1, Aiden Constantino earned a singles win for Windber in a 4-1 setback to Richland.

In Match 2, Constantino and Cayden Thompson teamed up for a doubles victory in a 4-1 setback.

Track and field

Windber girls sweep, boys split: The Windber girls bested Northern Bedford County 91-57, and Meyersdale 96-53.

Ariana Hill (100 and 300 hurdles, 400 and 1600 relay), Heather Carney (400 dash, triple jump, 1600 and 3200 relay), and Autumn Walz (long jump, 400 relay) picked up multiple wins for the Ramblers.

The Windber boys defeated Northern Bedford 108-42, but fell 86-64 to Meyersdale.

Tristin Ohler (100 and 200 dash, 400 and 1600 relay), and Levi Hersch (400 dash, 300 hurdles, 400 and 1600 relay) earned multiple wins for the Red Raiders.

Garrett Page (800, 3200 relay), and Joseph McKelvey (1600 run, 3200 relay) picked up multiple victories for the Ramblers.

Baseball

Central Cambria 9, Somerset 8 (8): Braeden Flower and Garrett Reese each contributed two hits and two RBIs for the Golden Eagles in a narrow setback to the Red Devils.

Conemaugh Township sweeps DH: In Game 1, Luke Haight recorded two hits and the lone RBI as Conemaugh Township edged United 1-0.

Larry Weaver tossed a complete game, allowing two hits, no walks and struck out 10.

In Game 2, Conemaugh Township earned a 10-3 victory.

D.J. Bambino drove in three runs. Haight, Colin Dinyar and Zack Petree each had three hits and combined for five RBIs. Luke Weber added two hits and an RBI. Petree pitched 5⅔ innings of relief and struck out four.

Windber 10, Meyersdale 0: Cole Mash and Andrew Scalia each racked up two hits, three RBIs and a run scored to lift the Ramblers over the Red Raiders.

Scalia allowed two hits and struck out five over five innings. Logan Serenko added two hits, an RBI and three runs scored.

Shanksville-Stonycreek 19, Turkeyfoot Valley 2 (3): Alec Thiele went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and four runs scored for the Vikings in a romp of the Rams.

Isaac Jamison recorded two hits and five RBIs. He struck out six to earn the win. Jordan Young chipped in two hits, two RBIs and three runs while Lincoln Saylor added a double and three runs scored.

North Star 10, Blacklick Valley 0 (5): Cayden Turner provided three hits, four RBIs and two runs scored as the Cougars blanked the Vikings.

Nolan Weible added two hits and two RBIs. Vance Kimmel allowed two hits and struck out six over 4⅓ innings of work.

Softball

Berlin Brothersvalley 10, Northern Garrett 0 (5): Elena Ritchey delivered three hits, including a 2-run home run to propel the Mountaineers to a non-conference victory.

Ritchey allowed three hits and struck out 11. Coral Prosser tallied three hits, two RBIs and two runs while Elsie Barna added two hits, an RBI and two runs.

Conemaugh Township splits DH: In Game 1, Conemaugh Township rolled to a 16-1 victory in three innings.

Addy Lasure recorded three hits while Haylee Thomas and Taylor Jarvis each provided two hits for Conemaugh Township.

In Game 2, Conemaugh Township fell 11-1 in six innings.

Lena Dull contributed two hits and Emily Purdy added one for Conemaugh Township.

Meyersdale 10, Windber 0 (6): Izabella Donaldson allowed three hits and struck out 14 to reach 500 punchouts for her career in a shutout of the Ramblers.

Donaldson provided two hits and three RBIs while Laurel Daniels added two hits and two RBIs. Karleigh Beal hit a 2-run home run.

Somerset 3, Central Cambria 2: Belle Martin doubled and drove in two runs to lift the Golden Eagles over the Red Devils.

Elly Fletcher recorded two hits and Ava Baumgardner added an RBI for Somerset.

Shade 13, Turkeyfoot 0: Tori Bowers went 4-for-4, including two doubles, a 2-run home run, five RBIs and two runs scored for the Panthers in a shutout of the Rams.

Patty Kovacs singled, doubled and tripled, drove in two runs and scored three times while Kori Boozer added three hits and three RBIs. Tara Corradini and Jaedyn Krupper combined for a one-hitter.

Tennis

Tussey Mountain 5, Windber 0: The Ramblers were blanked by the Titans.

Track and field

Berlin Brothersvalley splits with Tussey Mountain: The Berlin girls bested Tussey Mountain 131-13, while the boys fell 82½-62½.

Lynndee Ickes (100 hurdles, triple jump, javelin, 400 relay), Lexi Fairman (high jump, long jump, 400 relay), Deborah Bozovich (100 and 400 dash, 1600 relay), and Mercy Sechler (200 dash, 400 and 1600 relay) all picked up multiple victories for the Berlin girls.

Logan Glessner (long jump, 400 relay), Jacob Pelar (triple jump, 400 relay), and Carter Twombly (800 run, 1600 relay) recorded multiple wins for the Berlin boys.

Somerset boys, girls split: The Somerset girls fell to Richland 85-66, but upended Bishop Carroll 125-24.

Kam Ross (100 and 200 dash, 400 relay), Eve Housley (100 hurdles), and Emily Fisher (800) picked up wins for the Golden Eagles.

The Somerset boys were bested by Richland 103-47, but topped Bishop Carroll 100-50.

Evan DiBuono (110 hurdles, 400 relay), Maverick Swank (high jump, triple jump), and Tucker Mostoller (shot put) recorded wins for the Golden Eagles.

Baseball

Richland 9, Berlin Brothersvalley 3: The Rams broke open a tie game, scoring six runs in the seventh to upend the Mountaineers.

Caden Robertson produced two hits and four RBIs for Richland.

Pace Prosser delivered three hits, including two triples and two RBIs while Cale Kosic added a triple for Berlin.

North Star 11, Shanksville-Stonycreek 0 (5): Cayden Turner, Braden Livingston and Austin Orris each tallied two hits and two RBIs as the Cougars blanked the Vikings.

Andy Retassie recorded three hits, an RBI and two runs. Turner and Livingston combined for seven strikeouts.

Jordan Young had the lone hit for Shanksville.

Windber 6, Penn Cambria 5: Logan Serenko went 3-for-5, including a walk-off single, double, two RBIs and two runs scored to lift the Ramblers over the Panthers.

Cole Mash doubled and scored a run. Lucas Rummel allowed three hits over 5⅓ innings and struck out three for Windber.

Southern Garrett 7, Meyersdale 1: Ryan Sechler provided three hits and Dylan Teets added an RBI for the Red Raiders in a non-conference setback.

Softball

Shade 15, North Star 1 (5): Tara Corradini went 4-for-4, including a double, triple, six RBIs and three runs scored for the Panthers in a romp of the Cougars.

Corradini allowed two hits, an unearned run and struck out eight. Tori Bowers recorded three hits and three RBIs. Jaedyn Krupper tallied two hits and three RBIs, and Patty Kovacs added two hits and three runs.

Laikyn Paxton doubled for North Star.

Windber 4, Penn Cambria 3: Angel James went 2-for-2 with two runs scored to propel the Ramblers past the Panthers.

Skylee Miller provided two hits, and Nici Costlow added a hit and a run for Windber. Miller struck out six in the circle.

Fort Hill 18, Turkeyfoot Valley 0 (4): Rhylan Rugg doubled for the Rams in a non-conference loss.

Westmont Hilltop 5, Windber 0: The Ramblers were blanked by the Hilltoppers.
