Tony Vitello thanks fans following Tennessee’s win against Notre Dame

No. 1 Tennessee (57-8) defeated Notre Dame (39-16), 12-4, Saturday in game No. 2 of the NCAA Tournament Knoxville Super Regional at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

The Tennessee-Notre Dame best-of-three series is tied, 1-1.

The winner between the Vols and Fighting Irish will advance to the College World Series, June 16-27, at Charles Schwab Field Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska.

Following Tennessee’s win Saturday to force a game No. 3, Vols’ head coach Tony Vitello thanked fans for their support at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

“Our guys did a good job of coming to the park with some determination today,” Vitello said. “It’s hard not to follow the lead of the guy sitting to the left of me (Chase Dollander). I think a lot can be said for that. We were facing their best guy, at least statistically, and I know he has done a lot for them to this point. I think we were fortunate to kind of lean on him early there. Again, Doe (Dollander) makes it easier on you by leading the way like he was.

“It was a long, hot day, but a good day at the park if you’re a fan. They certainly made their presence be known again, so we appreciate that.”
