Who’s staying, who’s leaving, who’s incoming for BYU football? Tracking 2024 decisions

It’s going to be a hectic December for BYU football and for every other college football program in the country.

As of Dec. 4, the transfer portal is open, meaning players will be announcing their plans to look for better opportunities at other schools throughout the month.

December is also a popular time for established college players to announce their intention to declare for the NFL draft and for high schoolers to make formal commitments to their future schools.

Here’s a look at the player announcements shaking up the BYU football roster:

Returning to BYU

Ben Bywater, LB, junior
2023 stats: 4 starts; 32 tackles. Sustained a season-ending shoulder injury on Sept. 23.

Taylor Batty, DE, junior
2023 stats: 12 starts; 57 tackles, including 9 tackles for loss; 5.5 sacks.

Miles Davis, RB, sophomore
2023 stats: Played in 5 games and had 16 carries for 78 yards. Entered the transfer portal after the season but then decided to stay at BYU.


Declared for the NFL draft

Ryan Rehkow, P, junior
2023 stats: Played in 12 games and averaged 48.4 yards per punt.

Kingsley Suamataia, OL, sophomore
2023 stats: Played in 10 games and allowed just two sacks.

Aidan Robbins, RB, junior
2023 stats: Played in 8 games and had 485 rushing yards.

Isaac Rex, TE, junior
2023 stats: Played in 12 games and had 422 yards off 34 receptions.


Transferring from BYU

Hobbs Nyberg, WR, junior
2023 stats: 11 attempted punt returns for 41 yards in 12 games played.

Quenton Rice, CB, sophomore
2023 stats: No stats.

Maguire Anderson, WR, redshirt
2021 stats: Redshirt year. No stats.

Dylan Rollins, OT, redshirt
2021 stats: Redshirt year. No stats.

Sol-Jay Maiava-Peters, QB/RB, sophomore
2022 stats: Started in the 2022 New Mexico Bowl and rushed for 96 yards and 1 touchdown on 14 carries. Did not make the 2023 roster.

Dom Henry, WR, freshman
2023 stats: No stats.

Austin Riggs, long snapper, junior
2023 stats: Appeared in all 12 games and had 1 tackle.

John Henry Daley, DE, freshman
2023 stats: Recorded 3 tackles in 3 games.

Michael Daley, DE, sophomore
2023 stats: Played in 5 games but recorded no stats.
