Spring roundup: Mets 1B Gonzalez hits first spring homer

Adrian Gonzalez hit his first homer of the spring and Wilmer Flores and Travis d'Arnaud also went deep as the New York Mets recorded an 8-7 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday at Jupiter, Fla.

The 35-year-old Gonzalez, who has 311 career homers, is looking to bounce back from a poor 2017 season in which he batted .242 with three homers and 30 RBIs for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Gonzalez was limited to 71 games by elbow and back injuries.

Amed Rosario went 3-for-4 with an RBI triple for the Mets. Paul DeJong homered and had two RBIs for the Cardinals, and teammate Luke Voit hit a two-run triple.

Bryce Harper slugged a two-run homer and Wilmer Difo had a two-run single to help Washington knock off Miami at West Palm Beach, Fla. Lewis Brinson went deep for the Marlins.

Tigers 8, Yankees 3

Victor Martinez smacked his fifth homer of the spring and Victor Reyes went 3-for-3 with an RBI as Detroit cruised past New York at Lakeland, Fla. Jorge Saez homered for the Yankees.

Phillies 2, Blue Jays 0

Ben Lively allowed three hits over five shutout innings and Pedro Florimon contributed an RBI triple as Philadelphia blanked Toronto at Clearwater, Fla. The Blue Jays had just five hits before play was halted due to rain while they were batting with one out in the top of the seventh inning.

Red Sox 12, Pirates 6

Rafael Devers and Sam Travis homered and Boston racked up 17 hits en route to defeating Pittsburgh at Fort Myers, Fla. Jordan Luplow, Bligh Madris and Ke'Bryan Hayes all homered for the Pirates.

White Sox 10, Rangers 0

Lucas Giolito tossed 6 1/3 scoreless innings as the White Sox routed the Rangers in Glendale, Ariz. Texas starter Doug Fister yielded seven runs on 10 hits in 2 1/3 innings.

Dodgers 8, A's 2

Chris Taylor and Yasmani Grandal homered, and Yasiel Puig drove in four runs as Los Angeles topped Oakland in Mesa, Ariz. A's starter Paul Blackburn gave up seven runs on seven hits in 3 1/3 innings.

Angels 6, Diamondbacks 5

Los Angeles rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth, capped by Alberto Triunfel's game-off single, in a win over Arizona in Tempe, Ariz. A.J. Pollock and Steven Souza Jr. homered for the Diamondbacks.

Brewers 4, Rockies 4

Pat Valaika's ninth-inning RBI double lifted Colorado into a tie with Milwaukee in Scottsdale, Ariz. Brett Phillips hit a two-run homer for the Brewers.

Rays-Orioles, cancelled

The scheduled contest between Tampa Bay and Baltimore at Sarasota, Fla., was cancelled due to inclement weather and won't be made up, according to the Orioles.
