In addition to the honorees, a player each season is selected as our pick for the Hillsdale County boys basketball Player of the Year. This year, we have decided to give the honor to two senior players in the county who recently earned AP all-state honors.
Hillsdale Academy's Dominic Scharer and Hillsdale's Jack Bowles share this year's Player of the Year honors and our Dream Team Co-Captain honors. Both senior athletes finished their careers with milestone seasons that saw both pass 1,000 points.

Scharer was named a second team AP all-state honoree for Division 4. The senior Colt and Hillsdale Charger track and field commit was also a SCAA East first team and Player of the Year honoree. A dominating rebounder and crafty scorer, Scharer helped lead the Colts to three district championships and was a four-time SCAA East champion with the Colts. Scharer led the team to a 21-5 record this season, with an appearance in a regional championship game.
Scharer shot 53 percent from the field this year, averaging 14.8 points and 8.9 rebounds per game, along with 1.5 blocks and 2.6 steals a game. This was Scharer's third team dream team honor.
