The Rush: Brewers and Dodgers party straight into the postseason

It took one extra day and two extra games, but Major League Baseball’s playoff brackets are finally set. An historic day with two division tiebreakers began with one-third of all National League Teams in first place and ended with only three. In the early game, the Brewers went in to Wrigley Field and shut down the Cubs 3-1 to win their first division title since 2011. Near triple-crown winner Christian Yellich went 3 for 4 and Oswaldo Arcia went 4 for 4 to give the Brew Crew home field advantage through the first two rounds.

In the late afternoon game, the Los Angeles Dodgers hosted the Colorado Rockies in front of a partially filled Dodgers Stadium. In the end, the Dodgers secured their sixth consecutive NL West title with a convincing 5-2 victory. Walker Buehler was dominant, beginning his start with 5 ⅓ hitless innings. Max Muncy and Clay Bellinger went yard, and that was enough to overcome a shaky outing by Kenley Jansen that saw him give up a home run to each of the first two batters he faced in the ninth. The Dodgers will move on to play the Braves in the NLDS. The Rockies and Cubs will meet at Wrigley Field later tonight in the Wild Card play-in game to decide who will be playing the Brewers in Game 1 of their own NLDS.
