Quincy track sweeps Big 8 double dual

QUINCY – The Quincy Oriole track teams sent their seniors out in style Wednesday night, sweeping a Big 8 double dual as they welcomed Maple Valley and Reading to town on Senior Night. Quincy swept both the girl’s and the boy’s duals, taking key Big 8 wins over the visiting Lions and Rangers.

The Quincy girls' track team rolled to their two victories on Wednesday, beating Maple Valley 118-17 and Reading 103-38. Reading defeated Maple Valley in the other dual, winning 59-32.

Quincy dominated the middle to long distance races, winning everything from the 400-meter dash up to the 3200-meter run, including the hurdles, and three of the four relays. Quincy also took wins in three of the five field events to pull away for the victory.

The Orioles were led on the night by junior Brookelyn Parker who swept the hurdle events, winning the 100-meter hurdles in 17.18 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 49.54 seconds.

Also taking individual wins for Quincy was Elizabeth Craig, first place in the 400 in 1 minute, 7.31 seconds; Kendyl Musielewicz, first place in the 800 in 2:38.90; Katharina Paschke, first place in the 1,600 in 6:14.71; Raylee Fulton, first place in the 3,200 in a time of 16:03.15; Abigail Miller, first place in the high jump with a jump of 4 feet, 8 inches; Lita Fulton, first place in the pole vault with a vault of 8 feet, 6 inches; and Abby Tinervia, first place in the long jump with a jump of 15 feet, 0.5 inches.

Taking relay wins for Quincy was the 400 relay team of Fulton, Kali Kugler, Cheyenne Marske, and Tinervia, 55.40; the 1600 relay team of Craig, Musielewicz, Parker and Fulton, first place in a time of 4:31.82; and the 3,200 relay team of Fulton, Paschke, Musielewicz, and Sadie Miller, first place in a time of 14:00.83.

Rounding out the Quincy effort with a top three finish in their respective event was Lita Fulton, second place in the 200; Marske, second place in the 400; Lily Gray, third in the 400; Paschke, second in the 800; Sadie Miller, third in the 800 and second in the 1,600; Raylee Fulton, third in the 1,600; Peyton Proctor, second in the 3,200; Libby Butchart, third in the 3,200; Teagan Payne, second place in the 100 hurdles; the 800 relay team of Payne, Kugler, Nicole Cianci, and Marske, second; Kyha Brewer, second place in the shot put; Hallie Jones, third place in the shot put; Emyleigh Burlew, second place in the discus; Coelie Smullen, second place in the high jump; Brooke McVicker, second in the pole vault; Abby Leosh, third in the pole vault; and Kugler, third in the long jump.

Quincy boys show off depth in Big 8 double dual sweep

The Quincy Oriole boys swept the night on Wednesday, defeating Maple Valley 119-21 and Reading 86-56. Reading won the other dual, defeating Maple Valley 82-43.

Quincy’s depth was on full display Wednesday, as the Orioles took eight wins from eight different athletes.

Securing first place for the Orioles was Noah Pearson, first place in the 400 in a time of 55.82 seconds; Chayse Jensen, first place in the 1,600 in 5:08.02; Nathan Richer, first in the 3,200 in a time of 12:25.59; Clayton Benson with a win in the 110 hurdles in a time of 15.78; the 400 thrower relay team made up of Jefferson Ridgway, Spencer Patrias, Lincoln Sims, and Hayden Peters, first in a time of 53.49; Sims, first place in the shot put with a throw of 39 feet, 0 inches; Alex Dunn, first place in the high jump with a jump of 6 feet, 2 inches; and Corey Turner, first place in the pole vault with a vault of 13 feet.

Rounding out the Quincy effort with a top three finish was Noah Rufenacht, second place in the 400 and second place in the high jump; Micah Groves, third place in the 400; Jensen, second place in the 800; Eddie Miller, third place in the 800; Nathan Richer, second place in the 1,600; Coy Wood, third place in the 3,200; Michael Payne, third place in the 110 hurdles; Clayton Benson, second place in the 300 hurdles; the 400 relay team of Turner, Kaleb Handy, Benson, and Cameron Barry, second place; the 800 relay team of Nathan Cagle, Groves, Blaike Pearce, and Kaden Cutler, second place; the 1,600 relay team of Benson, Barry, Rufenacht, and Pearson, second place; the 3,200 relay team of Miller, Richer, Wood, and Max Stetler, second place; Ethan Pearson, second place in the shot put; Hayden Peters, second place in the discus; Sims, third place in the discus; Handy, second place in the pole vault; Dunn, second place in the long jump; and Corey Turner, third place in the long jump.

The Quincy Oriole track and field program will be back in action Friday when they head to Constantine for Invitational action.
