Philadelphia Eagles potential first round draft picks V. 0.5

Yes, I know we are not even three quarters of the way through this season. That said, I wanted to take some time out today to really turn my focus to the NFL Draft. It is after all, my favorite time of year. Given the Philadelphia Eagles current problems, it is also likely to be major draft for the team and head coach Doug Pederson’s future.

As they do not have their own first round pick after trading up to draft Carson Wentz last spring, the team was able to swing a deal earlier this season to get the Vikings first round pick. The more Minnesota loses, the higher our draft pick will be this Spring. Estimating that Philly will be selecting between the 15th and 20th pick in this years draft, here are the top three players that the team might select.

3. Mike Williams — Wide Receiver — Clemson

The only true first round wide receiver in this draft class, Mike Williams may be a little too high of a pick for the Eagles to grab. However, if the Vikings go on a real losing tear to end the season, Philly may be able to snag this tall and fast receiver in the middle part of the first round, say along the lines of pick 14-or-15.

Such a move would give the Eagles a definite receiving option heading into next season. Williams is tall and fast. Lining him up outside with DGB on the opposite sideline would at least provide Wentz with one dependable target. Again though, Williams could be taken higher as the draft’s only first round receiver, taking him out of Philly’s grasp.

2. Jalen Tabor — Cornerback — Florida

In one of the draft’s deepest cornerback classes of all time, Jalen Tabor would normally be a steal in the middle of the first round. Again though, Philly would need their pick to drift close to that of the 15th selection to have a true shot at getting Tabor. However, if they do get him, he will provide the team with a top level and future number one cornerback.

Though Tabor does have some off the field issues, there is no doubting his on field performance. Likely the next Pro Bowl cornerback out of the University of Florida’s cornerback assembly line, Tabor would provide Philly with a top level corner for years to come.

1. Dalvin Cook — Running Back — FSU

In my mind, this is the best selection for the rebuilding effort going on Philadelphia. I firmly believe this is not a two-year job but a three-year one. If that’s the case, then Dalvin Cook is the best possible selection for the Philadelphia Eagles. This selection as I’ve said before would prove the Eagles with a running back-quarterback duo to lead the team for years to come.

A strong runner that can go in between or outside the tackles, Cook is a speedy but strong runner. While not yet on the level of some of the NFL’s best runners, he has the potential to be there one day. If that is the case, then this pick is a must for the Eagles.
