Nolensville shuts out Georgia, one win from 2023 Little League World Series

Nolensville Little League's bid to become the first U.S. team to reach the Little League World Series in three consecutive years continued Monday when it defeated Hamilton (Georgia), 4-0, in a Southeast Region elimination game in Warner Robins, Ga.

Nolensville will face Florida at 4 p.m. Tuesday on ESPN, with the winner advancing to the 2023 Little League Baseball World Series, which begins Aug. 16 in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Georgia defeated Nolensville, 6-2, earlier in the tournament, which put the latter in the losers' bracket.

Nolensville turned a double play to end the top of the first inning. Winning pitcher Nash Carter led off Nolensville's first inning with a single to center field and scored the first run of the game two batters later on an error.

Jackson Tabor scored Nolensville's second run on a wild pitch in the second for a 2-0 lead. Gideon Shepler's two-out, two-run single later in the inning put Nolensville ahead 4-0.

Jace Barney made a diving catch in center field for Nolensville for the second-to-last out of the game, which also was Carter's final batter after he reached his pitch-count limit.

He was relieved by Stella Weaver, the first girl in the history of the program, who retired the only hitter she faced.

Carter also pitched Nolensville to victory in the Southeast Region semifinal last year against the Georgia state champions.

Nolensville finished fourth in the World Series last year after falling in the U.S. final and the consolation final. The program lost its only two games at the Series in 2021.
