From winning world championships to dyeing his hair like a Dragonball Z character, Noah Lyles is one of the most compelling athletes on the U.S. track and field team. The charismatic young superstar comes into the Tokyo Olympics, his first Games, as the gold medal favorite in the 200-meter dash.

In 2019, Lyles dropped a blistering time of 19.50 seconds in the 200-meter dash, making him the second-fastest American and the fourth-fastest man ever to run the event. He won gold medals at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar in the 200 meters and the 4x100-meter relay.

Michael Johnson, the current American record holder in the 200 and former world record holder, has said he thinks Lyles is currently the only sprinter with a chance to break his record of 19.32 seconds.
