NHL trade deadline roundup: Sharks acquire Kane in deal with Sabres

The San Jose Sharks acquired left winger Evander Kane from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for a pair of conditional draft picks and a prospect less than an hour before Monday's NHL trade deadline, per multiple reports.

Kane fetched a return of a 2019 conditional first-round draft pick, a 2020 conditional fourth-rounder and prospect Daniel O'Regan. TSN reports the condition of the first round pick is that, if Kane does re-sign with the Sharks, the picks remains a first -- but it will convert to a 2019 second-rounder if he stays.

The 26-year-old Kane is in his ninth NHL season, totaling 20 points and 20 assists for 40 points through 61 games with the last-place Sabres. He has 177 goals and 163 assists for 340 points in 557 career games with Buffalo and the Winnipeg Jets/Atlanta Thrashers.

The No. 4 overall pick of the Thrashers in 2009 is in the last year of his six-year deal with an annual cap hit of $5.25 million. After the franchise relocated to Winnipeg, the Jets traded Kane to the Sabres on Feb. 11, 2015.

--As one of the hottest teams in the league and closing in on the top overall seed in the Western Conference, the Winnipeg Jets acquired veteran two-way forward Paul Stastny from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for a 2018 first-round pick, prospect Erik Foley and a conditional fourth-round pick in 2020.

Stastny, 32, has 12 goals and 28 assists in 63 games this season for St. Louis, which entered the day just one point out of the Western Conference's second wild-card spot. The two-time All-Star has 633 points (216 goals and 417 assists) in 805 career games with the Colorado Avalanche and Blues.

Foley, a 20-year-old forward, was selected in the third round (No. 78 overall) by Winnipeg in 2015. He is currently a junior at Providence College, where he has a team-best 34 points in 32 games this season.

--The Columbus Blue Jackets reportedly acquired forward Thomas Vanek from the Vancouver Canucks for forward Tyler Motte and winger Jussi Jokinen.

Vanek is slated to be an unrestricted free agent following the season. The 34-year-old has 17 goals and 41 points this season and 738 career points (350 goals, 388 assists) in his 13-year career. Motte, 22, has five points (three goals, two assists) in 31 games this season. He was a fourth-round pick of the Chicago Blackhawks in 2013 and has 12 career points (seven goals, five assists) in 64 games over parts of two seasons.

--The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired forward Josh Jooris from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for forward Greg McKegg.

Jooris, 27, is signed through the remainder of this season and carries an average annual value of $775,000. He will be an unrestricted free agent following the season. The Penguins reassigned Jooris to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League. He has skated in 31 games with Carolina this season, recording three goals and three assists. He played against the Penguins in Pittsburgh's 6-1 win on Friday night.

McKegg, 25, has appeared in 26 games with the Penguins this season, producing two goals and two assists. He also netted five goals and added seven assists in 28 games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

--The Minnesota Wild sent defenseman Mike Reilly to the Montreal Canadiens for a fifth-round pick in the 2019 draft.

Reilly, 24, has two goals and eight assists in 38 games with the Wild this season. In 84 career games with the club, he has four goals and 14 assists. He was drafted in the fourth round by Columbus in 2011. Minnesota signed him as a free agent on July 1, 2015.

--The Nashville Predators acquired left wing Ryan Hartman from the Chicago Blackhawks in a multi-player deal less than three hours before the deadline.

Hartman, 23, was dealt to Nashville along with the Chicago's 2018 fifth-round draft pick in exchange for a 2018 first-rounder from the Predators, a 2018 fourth-rounder and prospect Victor Ejdsell.

A first-round pick (30th overall) by the Blackhawks in 2013, Hartman was in his second full season with Chicago and had tallied eight goals and 17 assists for 25 points through 57 games in 2017-18.

--The Columbus Blue Jackets acquired defenseman Ian Cole from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for center Nick Moutrey and a third-round pick in the 2020 NHL draft.

Cole, 29, was previously acquired by the Senators on Friday in a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He has 90 points (18 goals, 72 assists) with 332 penalty minutes in 385 career NHL games with the Penguins and St. Louis Blues.

Moutrey, 22, has three goals and three assists in 22 games with Columbus' American Hockey League affiliate, the Cleveland Monsters this season. The 6-3, 222-pounder will be assigned to Ottawa's AHL affiliate, the Belleville Senators.

--The Vegas Golden Knights traded forward Brendan Leipsic to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for defenseman Philip Holm.

Leipsic, a 23-year-old left wing, has two goals and 11 assists for 13 points through 44 games with Vegas in his first full NHL season.

Holm, 26, made his NHL debut Friday -- at Vegas -- recording a plus/minus of minus-2 in 15 minutes, 12 seconds of ice time. He has 11 goals and 18 assists (29 points) in 42 games with Utica of the AHL this season.

--The Columbus Blue Jackets acquired center Ryan Kujawinski from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for center Jordan Maletta.

Kujawinski, 22, has one goal and three assists with 11 penalty minutes in 24 AHL games with the Binghamton Devils and Tucson Roadrunners this season. He has recorded 37 points (13 goals, 24 assists) and 69 penalty minutes in 115 career AHL games. He was selected by the New Jersey Devils in the third round of 2013 NHL draft.

Maletta, 22, was signed by Columbus as a free agent on March 21, 2016. He has collected 27 points (12 goals, 15 assists) and 101 penalty minutes in 104 career games with Cleveland over the past two seasons, including four assists and 32 penalty minutes in 28 contests in 2017-18.

--The Boston Bruins acquired right winger Tommy Wingels from the Blackhawks in exchange for a conditional fifth-round pick in the 2019 NHL draft.

Wingels, 29, has seven goals and five assists in 57 games this season. He has tallied 138 points (60 goals, 78 assists) and 252 penalty minutes in 430 games during his career.

The Blackhawks signed Wingels to a one-year deal in July. He is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
