The Spice Girls said it best: If you want to be some girl’s lover, you need to get with her friends. So, in order to get singer Rihanna’s attention, Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid has to go through her friend Kelly Rowland.

Rowland and Embiid appeared alongside Jemele Hill and Michael Smith of ESPN’s “The Six” at the network’s upfront presentations on Tuesday, and Hill asked the Rookie of the Year candidate to make his case for why he should win over the singer’s attention.

His reasons? “I mean look at myself,” he said. Embiid went on to list his qualifications — he is good-looking, he has an accent, he is tall, he is intelligent, and he is funny. And who are we to argue?

Embiid has made no secret of his desire to date Rihanna and even asked for All-Star votes this season to better his chances. So why not shoot your shot, Joel? If it doesn’t work out, at least you trusted the process.
