NBA notebook: Warriors' Curry (ankle) skipping road trip

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry will not travel with the team on a two-game road trip due to a right ankle injury.

Curry was injured in Thursday's game against the San Antonio Spurs and has a history of ankle issues.

After initially saying Thursday night Curry would be observed and his status for the remainder of the night was uncertain, the Warriors later ruled Curry out.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr said after the game Curry will not play Friday at Portland on the second night of a back-to-back, and the team said Friday it had determined Curry would remain at home rather than travel for the two-game trek to face the Blazers and Minnesota Timberwolves.

--Boston Celtics swingman Jaylen Brown was placed in the NBA's concussion protocol after his hard fall to the court during the third quarter of the team's win over the Timberwolves on Thursday.

Brown will be out indefinitely, the Celtics announced.

Brown, the third overall pick in 2016 out of Cal, is averaging 14.1 points a game this season while averaging 31 minutes.

--The New Orleans Pelicans shot for a franchise-record 11th straight win against the Washington Wizards, but they did so without their perennial superstar.

The Pelicans announced shortly before tipoff that five-time All-Star forward Anthony Davis was diagnosed with a sprained left ankle and would miss the game.

Davis, who turns 25 on Sunday, was characterized as day-to-day after being injured during the third quarter of the team's 114-101 win Wednesday at Sacramento. Both Davis and coach Alvin Gentry downplayed the severity of the injury after the game, and Gentry remained unfazed and told reporters he's hopeful Davis could return for Sunday's game against the Utah Jazz.

--Former No. 2 overall pick Derrick Williams will join the Los Angeles Lakers on a 10-day contract, according to a report by Yahoo Sports.

Williams, who went unsigned after finishing last season with the Cleveland Cavaliers, played for Tianjin of the Chinese Basketball Association this season.

He averaged 20.9 points and 6.6 rebounds in his recently concluded CBA campaign. The former Arizona star was drafted second overall by the Timberwolves in 2011.

--Charlotte Hornets backup point guard Michael Carter-Williams will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a posterior labral tear in his left shoulder, the team announced.

Carter-Williams suffered the injury in the first half of the Hornets' loss to the Toronto Raptors last Sunday. He returned to play in the second half but missed the team's two games since. An MRI and examination from Hornets orthopedist Dr. Marc Cook confirmed the tear, per the team's news release.

In his first season with the Hornets after signing a one-year deal last July, the 26-year-old averaged career lows with 4.6 points, 2.2 assists and 2.7 rebounds in 52 games (two starts). For his career, Carter-Williams has averaged 11.5 points, 4.9 assists and 4.7 rebounds across 287 games (191 starts).
