Monday Roundup: New Lex, Tri-Valley baseball build on division leads

NEW LEXINGTON — Clay Miller swatted a double and single and drove in three runs and Jerek Braglin added two hits and two RBIs, as New Lexington topped West Muskingum 10-0 in a five-inning mercy of the Muskingum Valley League Small School Division clash on Monday.

Winning pitcher Garrett Blosser tossed a one-hitter, fanning eight and walking none. Blosser and Mason Pyle had two hits and two runs scored as the Panthers (14-2, 12-1) took a two-game lead in the division.

Alston Williamson allowed nine runs, six unearned, on nine hits with five strikeouts and one walk in four innings to take the loss and Camden Fowler had the lone hit for the Tornadoes (11-5, 10-3).

Tri-Valley 10, Maysville 0 (5 inn.): Kyler Brennen drilled two doubles and scored twice and Ethan McClellan had three hits and scored twice, as the Scotties (14-2, 12-0) used a seven-run third to earn a Big School Division.

Brady Kaufman tossed a one-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks for the victory. He also had two hits and Gavin Harrold drove in a pair of runs.

Kolton Gifford took the loss, surrendering eight runs, three earned, on five hits in four innings and Wesley Armstead had the only hit for the Panthers (4-10, 3-9).

Sheridan 13, River View 1 (5 inn.): Caden Sheridan had a double among his three hits, drove in two runs and scored twice to highlight a 11-hit attack for the Generals (18-2, 11-2).

Brody White threw a two-hitter with seven strikeouts for the victory. He also doubled with three RBIs, Coyle Withrow singled with three RBIs and two runs scored, AJ Winders hit a pair of singles and scored twice, Shawn Griffey added a single and two RBIs and Monty Eden came home three times.

Cole Greenwalt suffered the loss, giving up six runs on six hits in two innings and Layton Massie had both of the hits for the Black Bears (5-11, 3-8).

Morgan 11, Coshocton 4: Owen McCoy went 4-for-4 with three doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored to pace the Raiders (8-6, 5-5) against the Redskins (3-11, 3-16).

Tavian Myers doubled and singled twice, Logan Niceswanger collected a double, a single and three runs scored, Kole Searl singled twice and scored twice, Witten Schaad hit a double with two RBIs and winning pitcher Rance Eddleblute gave up two runs on two hits with three strikeouts and one walk in three innings.

Calan Shaw doubled with a RBI, and Coby Moore had a single with two RBIs. He also took the loss, giving up five runs on eight hits in 3⅔ innings.

Meadowbrook 7, Crooksville 5: Casey Clendenning hit the go-ahead, two-run double in a three-run fifth, as the Colts (4-12, 4-7) downed the Ceramics (3-13, 2-10).

Kade Winnett added three hits with a double and a RBI, Kam Winnett also had three hits and a RBI, Braylon Lowery added two hits and a RBI and Gunner Davis earned a complete game victory, giving up five runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and three walks.

Brady Cottrell tripled, singled and drove in a run, Kale Dennis and Kameron Savage hit doubles, Jace Thompson and Wyatt Hillis singled with a RBI and Gavin Mount went the distance in the loss, surrendering seven runs, four earned, on 12 hits with five strikeouts and one walk for Crooksville.

Buckeye Trail 2, East Canton 1: The host Warriors stayed perfect in the IVC standings at 7-0 (9-5 overall) with the tight win over the Hornets on Monday night.

Buckeye Trail was held to just three hits with Mason McQuain ripping a double, Tyler Harrell and Tyeson Mercer each singled for the other two base hits.

Mercer picked up the win on the mound for Trail, allowing one run on three hits in four innings of work. Mercer finished with seven strikeouts and walked three.

John Glenn 8, Philo 6: Noah Winland hit the eventual game-winning, two-run homer in a three-run sixth, as the Muskies (5-12, 5-7) edged the Electrics (5-12-1, 3-9) in a high-scoring affair.

Winland also earned the complete game win, striking out 13, walking none and scattering five hits. Wylee Woodard swatted a pair of doubles with a RBI, Riley Lake had two singles and two RBIs, and Jesse Driskel singled twice and scored twice in the win.

Jack Lincicome belted a three-run homer in the first and Eric Durant drilled a three-run homer in the third for Philo. Durant also had a single, Eli Roush singled and scored twice and Josh Gooden took the loss in relief, giving up four runs on two hits with a pair of strikeouts and one walk in two innings.

Rosecrans 4, Miller 2 (8 inn.): Preston Farrell drilled a walk-off, two-run home run, sending the Bishops (12-5) past the Falcons in Mid-State League play.

Haiden Omen hit a two-run single in the seventh to force extras, and winning pitcher Mikey Burkhart tossed a complete game, fanning seven, walking one and giving up seven hits. Burkhart and Brendan Bernath each doubled.

Licking Valley 16, Zanesville 0 (5 inn.): Caleb Underwood and Preston Moorehead had the only hits for the Blue Devils (4-12-1) in a Licking County League loss.

Mahki Murray allowed six runs, two earned, on four hits in two innings to suffer the loss.

Softball

John Glenn 9, Philo 3: Winning pitcher Sydney Marshall struck out 10, walked four and scattered seven hits, leading the Muskies (13-6, 11-1) to a Big School win.

Marshall also went 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, Estelle Matheney had three hits with a double, scored three times and drove in two runs, Addi Babcock singled twice and scored twice and Ava Miller and Bella Daniels had two hits each as John Glenn led 7-0 after five innings.

Kassydi Harris hit a solo homer and a single, Karlee Southall added two hits and losing pitcher Kyleigh McGraw suffered nine runs on 15 hits in a complete game for the Electrics (9-10, 8-5).

Morgan 15, Coshocton 5 (6 inn.): Ellie Parsons drilled three doubles and knocked in four runs and Paige Lanning hit a triple with three RBIs, as the Raiders (11-2, 8-2) stayed atop the Small School Division.

Laney Kangas allowed five runs on seven hits in four innings to earn the win, Chloe Baker had three hits with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored, Remi Keirns and Allia Rush each doubled, singled and knocked in two runs and Myka Augenstein and Malayni Clemens added two hits apiece for Morgan.

Jaeli Tiedt doubled, singled and drove in two runs, Jazlene Brown added a double, a single and two runs scored and Savannah Gambill chipped in two hits in the Redskins (5-16, 1-12). Gambill also took the loss, surrendering 13 runs on 13 hits in 4⅓ innings.

Edison 11, Cambridge 0: Monday's road trip proved to be a long one for the Bobcats (11-6) with the lopsided setback.

Audrey Shrieve tossed a one hitter with eight strikeouts in six innings from the circle to record the pitching victory for Edison (7-9).

Senior Abby Mann collected the lone Bobcats base hit, and took the pitching loss allowing 10 runs with just four earned runs. Mann collected 14 strikeouts to improve her career strikeouts to 509.

Sheridan 20, River View 5 (5 inn.): Cora Hall drilled a pair of home runs, a double and a single with six RBIs and three runs scored in the Generals' victory over the Lady Bears.

Avery Mueller had two singles and two RBIs and became Sheridan's all-time hits leader with 189, breaking the mark set by Taylor Pagan in 2021.

Addison Grosse added two doubles and three RBIs, Hailey Mueller and Brooke Cadigan had two hits each, Megan Ranck tripled and Lizzy Woods scattered five runs, two earned, on six hits with six strikeouts and four walks in a complete game win for the Generals (17-3, 10-2).

Hallie Wallace doubled, singled and knocked in a run, Rylee Lechner doubled with a RBI and Raelee McPeak hit a single with a RBI for River View (1-13, 1-11), while Bridgette Bible took the loss, allowing 12 runs, three earned, on 11 hits with four strikeouts and one walk in 3⅓ innings.

West Muskingum 10, New Lex 0 (5 inn.): Lydiah Huey belted two doubles with three RBIs and Cadence Puckett added a double, a single and three RBIs to pace the Tornadoes (13-5, 8-3) kept pace in the Small School race.

Addy Antonetz added a double, a single and two runs scored, Kate Foster hit two singles with three RBIs and K Meddings added three hits and two RBIs in the victory, while winning pitcher Kadie Bare had four strikeouts and two walks in a three-hitter.

Jorja Burkhart, Gracie Newlon and Abby Wilson had the hits for the Panthers (8-9, 4-8), while Mia Metzger took the loss, giving up 10 runs on 11 hits with a pair of strikeouts in 4⅓ innings.

Tri-Valley 9, Maysville 0: Ally Peterson collected three doubles and drove in three runs and Larsyn Holdworth hit a two-run homer to pace the Scotties (17-5, 8-4) in a Big School victory.

Winning pitcher Paiton Murphy fanned eight and walked two in a two-hit shutout, while she also had two hits and two RBIs. Caity Journey had two doubles, a single and two runs scored, Alivia Reffitt doubled and singled and Kylan Brock also had two hits.

Ashtyn Merlo and Ayven Johnson had the hits for Maysville (2-13, 1-10), while Taylor Freeland surrendered eight runs on 14 hits in six innings.

Meadowbrook 2, Crooksville 0: Hailey Fordyce had two singles and a RBI and winning pitcher Addy Sichina fanned seven and walked a pair in a three-hit shutout for the Colts (15-7, 7-4).

Jordyn Vargeson added two hits, Sommer Ginn doubled and scored and Addy Wiggins also had a hit for the Meadowbrook offense.

Gracie Peck scattered six hits, struck out five and walked one in a complete game loss, while Sonni Nelson, Madison Goodin and Mylin Driggs had the hits for the Ceramics (11-9, 4-8).

Ridgewood 6, Carrollton 1: Tarryn Morris singled twice and drove in two runs and Ava Kulbacki also had two hits for the Generals in a non-league win.

Kulbacki also threw a two-hitter for the victory in the circle and Maggie Shannon added a single with a RBI.

Miller 5, Rosecrans 3: Sam Delik doubled with an RBI and Ellie Worden added a single and an RBI, as the Bishops (4-11) fell short against the Falcons in MSL action.

Dakota Householder gave up five runs on 10 hits, struck out eight and walked five in the complete game loss.

Licking Valley 17, Zanesville 0 (5 inn.): Kierra Joseph had the only hit and losing pitcher Ayawna Gladden gave up 17 runs on 11 hits in five innings to take the loss for the Lady Devils.

Tennis

West Holmes 3, Zanesville 2: The Blue Devils (5-5) saw No. 1 singles Josh Lightle beat Sam Latouf 7-5, 6-3 and No. 2 doubles Ethan Turner and Carter Parr defeated Alex Zaugg and Wyatt Carter 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, but the Knights captured the other doubles in a tiebreaker to win the match.

For West Holmes, No. 2 singles Alex Pringle won over Conner Baldwin 6-4, 3-6, 6-3; No. 3 singles Max Baker downed Karter Bludnick 6-2, 6-1 and No. 1 doubles Jacob Miller and Terrance Miller topped Sky Cooke and Cash Omen, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 in a tie breaker.

Zanesville 4, Coshocton 1: The Blue Devils won the final four matches to move to 6-5.

No. 2 singles Josh Lightle beat Cady Jackson 6-2, 6-1; No. 3 singles Karter Bludnick downed Saige Abbott 6-3, 6-1; No. 1 doubles Sky Cooke and Cash Omen, defeated Syler D'Ostraph and Enne Jackson, 6-2, 6-0, and No. 2 doubles Ethan Turner and Carter Parr downed Lucy Baylor and Jaci Aronhalt 6- 2, 6-1.

Coshocton's lone win was at No. 1 singles where Philip Csehi won 6-3, 6-1 over Connor Baldwin.

Lacrosse

John Glenn 13, Canal Winchester 11: The Muskies slipped past the visiting Indians to move above the .500 mark at 8-7 with the lacrosse victory on Monday evening.

"This was a great way to end the home campaign of the season and celebrate our one senior Nic Xanders.  During the game, both Nic Xanders and Mason Williams reached the achievement of 100 career takeaways (Nic 102 and Mason 100)," John Glenn head coach Bob Williams said. "We have been battling injuries and illnesses and they really had to fight to get back in the game tonight."

With the game deadlocked at 11-11 late in the fourth quarter, Clay Hanna found Max Morrow with an assist to give John Glenn a 12-11 lead with under four minutes left to play. Hanna would then tally his fifth goal of the night to seal the 13-11 victory for the Muskies.

Hanna added three assists to go with his five goals, with Morrow finishing with three goals, one assist for the Muskies. Evan Haney added three goals along with five takeaways, while Cannon Fox chipped in with a goal for the winners.

Mason Williams paced the John Glenn defense with 24/26 faceoffs, three takeaways with a goal, with Nic Xanders finished with four takeaways and Ryder Pennington chipped in with three takeaways.
