Michigan State football lands DB/WR Shannon Blair, continues to extend recruiting reach

Mel Tucker continues to extend Michigan State football’s recruiting reach into different territory.

The Spartans received a commitment Friday from athlete Shannon Blair of Knoxville, Tennessee, bringing their 2022 class to 11 players from seven different states.

The 6-foot-1, 170-pound Blair is a three-star prospect according to 247Sports.com's composite rankings, and the No. 72 athlete nationally. He has played both defensive back and wide receiver at Knoxville West High, where he also is a dangerous return man.

According to the Knoxville News Sentinel, Blair caught 36 passes for 378 yards and five touchdowns as a receiver and picked off four passes with 13.5 tackles as a defensive back.

MSU also has two commitments from Georgia safeties Malik Spencer and Quavian Carter, as well as Roseville athlete Tyrell Henry lined up for next fall. The Spartans are currently 32nd nationally and seventh in the Big Ten with their 2022 recruits.

That could change soon, as Tucker also hopes to land two other players who, like Blair, recently visited MSU. Quarterback Katin Houser, a three-star prospect from St. John Bosco High in California, announced his decommitment from Boise State on Thursday night after visiting East Lansing last weekend. And three-star offensive tackle Ryan Baer from North High in Eastlake, Ohio, tweeted he canceled a scheduled visit to Notre Dame after his MSU visit earlier this week.

The Spartans have three players from Georgia, two from Arizona and Michigan and one each from Tennessee, Colorado, Florida and Texas so far in the 2022 class.
