Meet the 2023 Amarillo Globe-News boys basketball Super Team
Time to meet the preseason AGN boys basketball Super Team. We'll start with the MVP.
MVP: KJ Thomas, Randall, Senior
There was some consideration for Amarillo High's Braden Hausen, but the reigning MVP and future UTEP Miner won out. Thomas averaged 22.9 points, 3.7 rebounds and five assists on the way to an All-State selection. He guided the Raiders to the first state tournament appearance in program history.
FIRST TEAM
G: Braden Hausen, Senior, Amarillo High
High Point commit averaged 14 points, five rebounds and four assists per game last season.
G: Hayden Alston, Senior, Texline
Former Hedley star transferred in and the 6-foot-5 star took his game to new heights with 20.5 points and 9.8 rebounds per game.
G: Aiden Allen, Senior, Childress
One of the leaders for the Bobcats last season helped get them to the 3A state championship game while averaging 15.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.
F: Jailyn Sledge, Senior, Tascosa
The 6-foot-7 standout averaged 20.3 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and three blocks per game for one of the strongest Rebel teams in years.
F: Danner Price, Senior, Sanford-Fritch
Averaged 28 points per game along with 12.2 rebounds and four assists per game.
SPARKS OF THE BENCH
G: Zach Brown, Junior, Amarillo High
AGN Newcomer of the Year averaged 12 points, four rebounds and three assists per game.
G: Haiden Thompson, Senior, Miami
Dominant athlete averaged 21 points, 10 rebounds and six assists per game and was district MVP.
G: Logan Mason, Senior, Wildorado
Transfer from Vega averaged 18 points per game and now heads down to Class 1A.
F: Swayde Cleavinger, Senior, Wildorado
Averaged 13.6 points, seven rebounds and 2.2 steals per game while shooting 50% from the field.
F: Ayden Rodriquez, Senior, West Plains
Averaged 10.6 points and four rebounds per game for the first year program.
SECOND TEAM
G: Eli Igiranez, Senior, Palo Duro
Averaged 11.2 points and 5.1 rebounds per game last season.
G: Julian Cervantes, Perryton
Averaged 14.2 points and six assists per game last season.
G: Wiley Killham, Senior, West Plains
Averaged 10.7 points, three rebounds and two steals per game last season.
F: Kelson Jones, Senior, Canyon
Averaged 10 points, seven rebounds and two blocks per game for the regional finalist Eagles.
F/C: Kayle Rogers, Junior, Nazareth
Averaged 14.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game and was named TABC All-State in Class 1A.
SPARKS OFF THE BENCH
G: CJ Moore, Junior, Happy
Averaged 10.5 points and 4.4 rebounds per game in first varsity action.
G: Devin Baccas, Senior, Randall
Averaged 8.8 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game while earning 1st team All-District honors. Expected to take on more of a larger role this year.
F: Ryder McElroy, Junior, Farwell
Averaged 10 points a game as a sophomore and was named 3-2A Newcomer of the Year.
F: Noah Wood, Senior, Groom
Put up 134 points, 206 rebounds, 38 assists, 38 steals and 27 blocks last year.
F: Benden Garcia, Junior, Wellington
Averaged 12.3 points and 8.5 rebounds as a sophomore and enters his third season as a starter.
