Madisonville drains nine 3-pointers in 69-48 win over Union County
MORGANFIELD, Ky. -- Trailing by one point at halftime, Madisonville scored the first 13 points of the second half to pull away from Union County for a 69-48 win Tuesday in the season opener for both teams.
The Lady Maroons hit nine 3-pointers in the contest with five of those coming from sophomore Emilee Hallum, who finished with a game-high 17 points.
All five starters finished in double figures for Madisonville as Riley Sword scored 13 points, while Amari Lovan, Camrym LaGrange and Destiny Whitsell added 12 apiece. LaGrange, who missed all of last season with a knee injury, scored eight of her points in the 13-0 run that started the second half. She also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
The Lady Maroons went on to outscore Union County 25-5 in the third period.
Mati Hagan led Union County with 15 points, while Madison Morris and Amelia Mackey added eight apiece.
Union County visits Hopkins Central (1-0) on Friday, while Madisonville hosts Hopkinsville on Thursday.
