LSU basketball excluded from March Madness, will miss 2024 NCAA Tournament
LSU basketball won't qualify for the NCAA Tournament.
The Tigers' March Madness chances were already slim going to the SEC Tournament, and after their loss to Mississippi State in the second round on Thursday, their odds were near-zero. The committee made it official on Selection Sunday when LSU was left out of the 68-team field.
The Tigers still have an outside chance to play some postseason basketball in 2024, however. LSU is a fringe team for an NIT bid, and has a decent chance to not only qualify for the NIT but also host a first-round game under 2024's new format which expanded the number of power-conference teams in the tournament. The NIT selection show is also on Sunday night.

Regardless of whether they qualify for the NIT, it's hard to argue this season hasn't been a success for the Tigers. After finishing 14th in the SEC in his first year, Matt McMahon has taken LSU to an overall winning record and a .500 conference record in his second season in Baton Rouge.
