What is Matt McMahon's salary as LSU basketball coach?
LSU basketball coach Matt McMahon is one of the top 50 highest-paid coaches in college basketball, but is also the second-lowest paid in the SEC, according to the database released Wednesday by USA Today Sports.
McMahon will make $2.7 million this year. Although some coaches at private schools do not appear in the database, McMahon sits at 49th in the nation, right between Gonzaga head coach Mark Few and California's Mark Madsen.
In terms of SEC schools, though, McMahon ranks 13th of 14 coaches, with only South Carolina's Lamont Paris making less. If Texas and Oklahoma were to be included among SEC schools — as both of them are set to join the conference this summer — then McMahon ranks 15th of 16.
McMahon is currently in his second season with the Tigers following seven seasons as the head coach at Murray State. This year, he has the Tigers at 17-14, including 9-9 in SEC play, good enough to clinch the 8-seed in the conference tournament. LSU opens the SEC Tournament on Thursday afternoon against 9-seed Mississippi State from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.
