Local Sports: Flat Rock, Jefferson, Bedford, Whiteford move on

Flat Rock and Jefferson are moving on to regionals.

The Rams were second and the Bears fourth in the Division 3 competitive cheerleading district at Grosse Ile on Friday night.

The host team took the title with 776.28 points while Flat Rock was the next closest team at 760.48. Onsted (730.9) was third and Jefferson (730.32) fourth.

“I am extremely proud of the performance the Lady Rams put on the floor today,” Flat Rock coach Katy Blosser said. “Our best three rounds of the season. The girls continue to improve each week.”

All four teams move on to the Regional at Novi Feb. 24.

Ida (675.16) was sixth and Dundee (644.08) ninth.

“After a couple of rough seasons and small teams, it feels really good to be full strength on the mat and hitting harder stunts,” Ida coach Nichole Loveland said. “This is the most resilient group of kids. They have been so much fun to coach. Each and every member contributes every day. They don’t have egos. They genuinely love each other.”

COMPETITIVE CHEER

Bedford takes third

WOODHAVEN – Bedford kept is season alive with a third-place finish in the Division 1 district at Woodhaven.

The Mules scored 749.74 points to finish behind Woodhaven (777.8) and Wyandotte Roosevelt (776.34).

Monroe was eighth with 624.74.

Bedford advances to the Regional at Troy Athens Feb. 24.

Whiteford advances

HUDSON – Whiteford claimed the fourth and final spot to qualify for next week’s regional at Michigan Center during the Division 4 district at Hudson on Friday night.

The Bobcats finished with a score of 637.38.

The top three spots went to Hudson with 760.72, Addison with 652.7 and Whitmore Lake with 647.14.

"The girls did amazing," Whiteford coach Kim DeSilvis said. "Last year was our very first year of competitive cheer at Whiteford. Last year, we placed 11th out of 12."

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Bedford streak snapped

SALINE – Bedford had its 14-game winning streak snapped and suffered its first Southeastern Conference Red loss of the season, falling 38-32 to Saline Friday night.

The Mules (14-2) were led by Nyah Mullins with 12 points.

Farago hits career high

GIBRALTAR – Josie Farago scored 10 of her career-high 13 points in the second half to help Gibraltar Carlson hold off Taylor 45-32 Friday night.

The freshman dropped in four 3-pointers.

The Marauders improved to 10-7.

Ranked team stops Whiteford

OTTAWA LAKE – Whiteford was outscored 33-19 in the second half of a 43-34 loss Friday night to Lake Leelanau St. Mary, which came into the game ranked No. 6 in the Division 4 Associated Press state poll.

Jenna Saylor and Emily Rasor scored 10 points each for the 10-7 Bobcats.

Lake Leelanau is in the Monroe County for two games. It will play Bedford on Saturday afternoon.

Skyline tops Monroe

ANN ARBOR – Monroe suffered its fourth straight loss and dipped to 5-13 with a 33-20 loss to Ann Arbor Skyline Friday night.

"We did not play well unfortunately," Monroe coach Trent Moody said. "It was hard for our girls to get in a groove."

Only three players scored for Monroe including 9 by Sophia Bussell and 7 from Zoe Leach.
