Now, Inter Miami continues its quest for Leagues Cup glory against a Charlotte FC team that is also a surprise quarterfinal participant.

The winner of the Inter Miami-Charlotte FC game will face the Philadelphia Union-Querétaro winner in the semifinals on Aug. 16.

Charlotte FC is in just its second Major League Soccer season and might be enjoying the greatest moment in its young history with its Leagues Cup run. Charlotte FC defeated FC Dallas in its Leagues Cup opener and then toppled Liga MX's Necaxa 4-1 to reach the knockout rounds. In the knockout rounds, Charlotte FC defeated Liga MX's Cruz Azul in a penalty shootout and then Houston Dynamo FC in a wild late-game rally to set up a date with Messi and Inter Miami.

Forward Karol Świderski is the team's leading scorer in Major League Soccer play with seven goals. He's also bagged two goals in Leagues Cup play. Patrick Agyemangthe 12th overall pick in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft — also has scored two Leagues Cup goals.
